Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • Conducts in-service training for classroom teachers, administrators, and support personnel regarding English Language Learners (ELLs) and strategies and procedures for serving language minority students.
  • Schedules meetings of the ESL team to review information and make recommendations concerning placement of each student in the EL Program.
  • Monitors the academic progress of all EL students in the regular program and makes recommendations to teachers.
  • Provides EL instruction to K-12 English Language Learners.
  • Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
  • Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff.
  • Keeps record of daily mileage traveled and submits mileage report to base school monthly.
  • Submits information and updates to the Special Services Office regarding all ELs enrolled in the designated service area.
  • Attends professional development training annually regarding EL programs and procedures.
  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date student folders of all ELs.

Job Title: EL TEACHER

Supervised by/Reports to: Principal/EL Coordinator

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Goals:

  1. To coordinate the assessment, placement and instruction of ESL students in a designated service area.
  2. To serve as a resource support to the staff and faculty at each of the schools in the assigned area through large group in-service and individual consultations.
  3. To train EL Instructional Aides in EL teaching strategies and in the use of specialized materials.
  4. To work collaboratively with the EL Program Supervisor to develop program guidelines and to compile program data.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  2. Valid Alabama teaching certificate.
  3. Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL).
  4. Previous successful teaching experience preferred.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  2. Conducts in-service training for classroom teachers, administrators, and support personnel regarding English Language Learners (ELLs) and strategies and procedures for serving language minority students.
  3. Schedules meetings of the English as a Second Language (ESL) team to review pertinent information and make recommendations concerning the placement of each student in the EL Program.
  4. Monitors the academic progress of all EL students in the regular program and makes recommendations to the regular classroom teachers concerning instructional modifications for EL students.
  5. Provides EL instruction to K-12 English Language Learners.
  6. Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
  7. Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff.
  8. Works with EL Instructional Assistant in EL teaching strategies and in the use of materials.
  9. Keeps record of daily mileage traveled and submits mileage report to base school at the first of each month.
  10. Submits information and updates to the Special Services Office regarding all ELs enrolled in the designated service area.
  11. Attends professional development training each year regarding EL programs and procedures.
  12. Keeps accurate and up-to-date student folders of all ELs in the service area; including all assessment data, team meeting documentation, progress reports and pertinent correspondence.
  13. Administers placement tests and spring ACCESS assessments to ELs in the designated service area.
  14. Assists as needed with the evaluation of EL Instructional Assistant or other designated personnel in accordance with school system policies and procedures.
  15. Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  16. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy and state and federal rules and regulations.
  17. Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  18. Serves on committees, representative bodies, task forces, or as a system delegate as needed.
  19. Attends local, state, and national staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge.
  20. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  21. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  22. Participates in state-approved evaluation program as required.
  23. Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during or after school as directed.
  24. Supervises and/or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
  25. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  26. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  27. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  28. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  29. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
  30. Serves on school system committees, tasks forces, and representatives groups as required.
  31. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  32. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  33. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary: Salary to be established by The Limestone County School's District Salary Schedule.
