Job summary

NIAR at Wichita State University is seeking a talented Design Engineer to join our team as an independent contractor. You will support design tasks across structural elements, systems installations, and engineering deliverables throughout the product lifecycle; execute changes to CAD models and drawings; participate in trade studies; create and maintain ICDs; coordinate with customers.

The role requires on-site work about 80% of the time, knowledge of GD&T and ASME standards, and experience with

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering with two years’ experience.
Ability to work on-site 80% of the time.
Eligible for U.S. export controlled technologies and U.S. citizenship.
Experience in 3D CAD tools.
Familiarity with NASA and/or FAA structural design standards.
Experience with airframe structure, systems, or interior design using CAD tools.
Experience developing and modifying 3D models & drawings or MBD datasets.
Familiar with GD&T, design fundamentals, and ASME Y14.5, Y14.31, Y14.37, Y14.41.
Proficiency in GD&T tolerance application.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Domestic travel up to 10% may be required.

Responsibilities

Designs and substantiates structure, mechanical systems, and interior components across lifecycle.
Design activity includes primary structure, flight test and development structure, instrumentation, flight controls, ECS, interiors, etc.
Prepare and maintain design datasets, change requests, and engineering reports.
