Job summary

Excelitas Technologies Corp. in Billerica, MA is seeking an Intern for the Continuous Improvement team. You will support lean initiatives, collect data, and analyze processes to drive operational excellence in a manufacturing setting.

You will work with operations, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams, gain hands-on exposure to value stream mapping and Kaizen events, and contribute to measurable improvements during a 6–24 month internship.

Qualifications

• Be enrolled in an accredited college, university, community college, trade or technical program, or have graduated within the last 12 months
• Internships last a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 2 years. Every internship has a defined end date in the offer letter. Internships are reviewed every 6 months

Responsibilities

• Support Continuous Improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity improvements
• Assist in Lean initiatives including 5S, Visual Management, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen events
• Collect, organize, and analyze operational data to identify improvement opportunities
• Participate in root cause analysis activities using A3, 5 Whys, and Fishbone methodologies
• Document current and future-state processes, workflows, and work instructions
• Support implementation and sustainment of process improvements
• Develop reports, dashboards, and visual management tools
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams
• Participate in Continuous Improvement training and operational excellence activities

Our facility in Billerica, Massachusetts,is located in the metropolitan Boston area and specializes in the designand manufacturing of advanced photonics products based on MEMS and other micro-scale optical devices. This site's Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) products are laser-based imaging tools that have transformed ophthalmic care and made notable impacts on patients in cardiology, dermatology, oncology, gastroenterology, and other medical specialties.

We are presently seeking an Intern for our Continuous Improvement team at our Billerica site. This positionwill support operational excellence initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on experience in Lean manufacturing, process improvement, data analysis, and cross-functional project support while contributing to measurable business results.

Main responsibilities:

• Support Continuous Improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity improvements;
• Assist in Lean initiatives including 5S, Visual Management, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen events;
• Collect, organize, and analyze operational data to identify improvement opportunities;
• Participate in root cause analysis activities using A3, 5 Whys, and Fishbone methodologies;
• Document current and future-state processes, workflows, and work instructions;
• Support implementation and sustainment of process improvements;
• Develop reports, dashboards, and visual management tools;
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams;
• Participate in Continuous Improvement training and operational excellence activities.

Objectives:

• Assist the CI manager in the development of a suite of Value Stream Maps for the HVP and LE production units;
• Learn process observation skills and contribute to the documentation of process cycle times across relevant process areas;
• Use the above to understand process bottlenecks and recommend areas of further explanation;
• Create and review process observation video files, such that relevant information can be extracted;
• Develop a documented process for long-term data storage and manipulation;
• Develop and execute a single project designed to improve flow through a bottleneck.

Requirements:

• Be enrolled in an accredited college, university, community college, trade or technical program, or have graduated within the last [12] months
• Be at least 18 years old (required for clean room, production, and lab areas)
• For purposes of eligibility to access export-controlled information, must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, an admitted refugee, or a person granted asylum
• Pass the standard background check and any export-control screening required for the role
• Interns are not eligible for company-sponsored benefits except where required by law or by the terms of a benefit plan.

The salary range for this position is $25.00 to $30.00
