Job summary

University of Minnesota Duluth, in the UMPR team, seeks a Content and Project Manager to plan, write, edit, and publish engaging digital content while leading UMPR initiatives. This role blends project management with persuasive marketing copy and storytelling aligned with university priorities.

About The Job

The Content and Project Manager will work as a member of the University of Minnesota Duluth’s University Marketing and Public Relations (UMPR) team to plan, organize, write, edit, and publish engaging and strategic digital content. This position serves a dual purpose: acting as the primary project manager for UMPR initiatives while focusing on crafting persuasive marketing copy and compelling storytelling to support University wide strategic priorities.

While physical presence on campus is a critical component of this role, some remote work may be considered. UMPR is dedicated to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, and highly encourages applications from historically underrepresented communities. This position is scheduled Monday-Friday: 8:00am – 4:30pm.

Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Collaboration – 30%
  • Serve as primary project manager for UMPR, working with collaborators to assemble and document project requirements and facilitate project team meetings.
  • Manage project management systems and lead collaborations, providing status reports, collecting feedback/approvals, and communicating progress throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and resolve barriers to meeting project objectives, managing multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
  • Build ongoing relationships and act as a primary point of contact and consultant for units across campus regarding their digital content.
Web & Content Strategy – 35%
  • Manage and maintain central UMD web pages (such as the homepage and top navigation pages) and create or edit existing websites to ensure an engaging layout and positive user experience.
  • Provide content strategy guidance for UMPR storytelling, key web pages and campaigns.
  • Support the distribution of digital content across multiple channels.
  • Ensure digital content meets standards for accessibility, usability, readability, search engines, and AI-driven discovery.
  • Support campus web content needs in collaboration with the UMD web management team and the Central University Web Services team.
  • Communicate regularly with various departments to ensure digital content is up to date and meets online goals and requirements
  • Provide oversight and user support for the campus calendar of events.
Content Creation & Marketing Copywriting – 20%
  • Distill complex ideas into clear, engaging, and on-brand messaging that connects with key stakeholder audiences.
  • Write and edit engaging, targeted content for websites, marketing materials, digital ads, and publications.
  • Serve as a brand steward, maintaining and evolving the university’s voice, tone, and brand standards across all digital touchpoints.
Leadership & Operations – 15%
  • Manage student employee(s) to provide additional workforce support and capacity.
  • Use data-driven insights to regularly refine content for clarity, consistency, usability, and messaging effectiveness.
  • Maintain flexibility with the ability to work evening and weekend hours when necessary.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree plus at least two years of experience, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.
  • Professional written communication skills and a proven ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success with project management and managing project management systems.
  • Superb editing, proofreading, and content organization skills.
  • Experience working in higher education, publishing, marketing, or agency-side environments.
  • Experience using web/content management systems (e.g., Drupal, WordPress).
  • Experience with Generative Engine Optimization and Search Engine Optimization principles for content optimization
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Pay And Benefits

Pay Range: $51,355.20 – $60,000.00 ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
