Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Contamination Control Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4 to join our team in Gilbert, AZ.

This position can be filled at either Level 3 Principal Systems Engineer or Level 4 Sr. Principal Systems Engineer.

Expertise is needed to fuel the future for contamination control design as well as development and analysis of complex systems of space programs. Attention to the smallest of details will enable a more reliable and capable product.

Contamination Engineering is a unique career path that will challenge one’s abilities to learn new concepts, think critically, and understand the effects and consequences of unwanted matter on surfaces exposed to harsh environments.

The selected candidate will work within a team of experienced engineers that will provide guidance and mentorship on this journey.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supporting multiple programs in the development of systems for space.
• Developing appropriate requirements for cleanliness based on performance degradation analysis due to contamination.
• Performing analyses of systems to determine potential for contamination generation and accumulation on sensitive surfaces.
• Designing means and methods of passive and active contamination control.
• Performing, sampling, and analyzing data to determine performance impacts and to verify cleanliness requirements.
• Participating in the verification of contamination requirements at the component, subsystem, and system levels.
• Preparing, reviewing, and presenting plans, procedures, reports, technical analyses, and participating in failure reviews as they relate to contamination control.
• Implementing contamination control procedures and plans.
• Performing studies of environments to determine suitability to host contamination sensitive hardware.

Basic Qualifications for Contamination Control Systems Engineer – Level 3:

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience
• Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience
• PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 1+ year(s) of engineering experience
• Candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance (or equivalent) at time of application and prior to start date and the willingness and ability to obtain and maintain active SCI access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate’s maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.

Basic Qualifications for Contamination Control Systems Engineer – Level 4:

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 8+ years of engineering experience
• Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 6+ years of engineering experience
• PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 4+ years of engineering experience
• Candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance (or equivalent) at time of application and prior to start date and the willingness and ability to obtain and maintain active SCI access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate’s maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.

Preferred Qualifications for Contamination Control Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4:

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or Physics.
• Experience/Exposure with Contamination Engineering through internship or previous experience.
• Familiarity with ISO-14644, IEST-STD-1246, and ASTM E595/E1559.
• Experience/Familiarity with thermal vacuum chambers and their related monitoring equipment as they relate to space environment simulation.
• Experience/Familiarity with working in a laboratory and/or FTIR, Gas Chromatography/Mass spectrometry, and Optical Microscopy.
• One or more years of experience or familiarity with organic chemistry and/or mass transport.
• Experience with modeling and simulation using commercial software.
• Active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance (or equivalent) along with active SCI access at time of application and prior to start date.
• Please be aware that this position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining associated business and/or customer funding. Additionally, this position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future. Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.

Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
