Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in the United States seeks a Maintenance Technician specializing in compactors and related equipment. You will perform repairs, coordinate rebuilds, and ensure safety standards are met across operations.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, CDL within six months, and experience repairing compactors. You will engage in welding, PM program coordination, and inventory control to support customer service goals.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with company rules and regulations regarding compactor safety.
  • Coordinate rebuilds, repairs, and track costs for parts and labor.
  • Receive and coordinate major account requests for compactor repairs and installations.
  • Assist the branch with compactor repair or installation problems.
  • Perform minor welding as needed.
  • Manage PM program to maintain equipment condition and minimize loads.
  • Stock inventory of standard parts and maintain stocking levels.
  • Maintain knowledge of latest technology via manuals and training.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Comply with all Company and applicable rules and regulations regarding compactor/equipment safety.
  • Coordinate all compactor rebuilds, repairs, and track all costs by for any parts or labor used.
  • Receive major account request for compactor repairs and installation and coordinate/perform as necessary to insure completeness.
  • Assist the branch with any compactor repair or installation problems.
  • Perform minor welding when needed
  • Coordinate P.M. program to ensure that our image, equipment and customer service is upheld; including pressure setting and cycle times to make sure that we are minimizing loads from our customers.
  • Stock inventory of standard parts, according to designated stocking level
  • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.
  • Possess, provide and maintain tools necessary to perform tasks related to maintenance.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and keep up with the latest technology through the use of technical manuals and attendance of technical training seminars and testing.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired.
  • Prior experience in the repair of compactors and other equipment.
  • Possess valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety sensitive functions according to Company standards
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job.
  • Possess physical ability to perform all aspects of job.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical apparatus, particularly in working on and around 3 phase high voltage.
Physical/Mental Demands:
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
  • Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required.
  • Visual Requirements: include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent physical effort including handling tools and equipment required.
  • Frequently lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes and airborne particles.
  • Occasionally work in high precarious places.
  • Work environment is usually loud.
