JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Container Mechanic provides crucial maintenance tasks for dry cargo containers. The role requires a proactive approach to prevent potential issues (preventative maintenance) and the skill to address and fix problems as they arise (corrective maintenance). Success in this position is measured by the ability to consistently fulfill all core responsibilities to a satisfactory level. The candidate must possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities as outlined in the job requirements. The position is responsible for practicing safe work habits and for maintaining a clean and safe workplace environment.

• Two years of experience in repairing and restructuring container, chassis or refrigerated equipment.

• Flexible availability, willing to work extended hours, weekends, including nights, overtime, and holidays as needed.
• Must be eligible to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card within 30 days of employment.
• Makes sure team members are wearing proper PPE, always.
• Completes a safety risk assessment prior to all work performed
• Works with management to schedule, prioritize, and control workload.
• Communicates professionally with team members, supervisors, and manager.
• Actively participates in safety and educational training as required.
• Performs any other management requests or directives as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

This position works in a port/terminal setting, with ample outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely spends most of the day standing up and performing other physical activities as needed.

Physical Demands

• Lifting to 50 lbs. without assistance and up to 100 lbs. with job aids or co-worker assistance
• Carrying up to 25 lbs. for a distance up to 10 feet
• Standing/Walking activities are encountered during 85% of the normal workday
• Sitting activities are normally not encountered outside of normal work breaks and would not exceed 10% of a workday
• Stooping/Bending/Squatting activities are encountered on a frequent basis
• Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling activities are encountered approximately 30% of an average workday
• Climbing would comprise no more than 5% of an individual’s time
• Reaching activities are conducted on a frequent and repetitive basis throughout the workday
• An individual may be required to perform twisting activities, dependent on the type of position he need to place himself in while performing his/her job duties

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary depending on the company’s needs. Exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts. Long hours, weekend and overtime is expected.
