Job summary

Velera is seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriter I to evaluate loan applications, determine credit decisions, and support client institutions in a remote environment. The role emphasizes accuracy, risk assessment, and adherence to underwriting guidelines.

You will work across multiple loan channels, assist contact center colleagues, and participate in training on new programs while upholding Velera’s core values and commitment to service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school, or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree Preferred.
  • 1 year experience as a Lending Underwriter required.
  • 1 year of Contact Center experience in a loan Contact Center position preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lending Underwriting best practices.
  • Knowledge of the Contact Center loan application processing.
  • Knowledge of all facets of the indirect and direct lending process including their differences.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates loan applications for quality and accuracy and decides based on credit history and client guidelines.
  • Decision phone, Internet, indirect, ExpressLink, and data entry applications to support the business while monitoring quality, efficiency, and accuracy of the loan applications handled by Contact Center Representatives.
  • Finalize Velera Representative loan applications.
  • Evaluate and report on the quality and accuracy of information templates, including rate changes and promotional information.
  • Provide ongoing support of cross-sell products.
  • Report risks identified to the appropriate team/management.
  • Support Contact Center representatives with lending questions.
  • Monitor loan applications to ensure quality and loan standards are met and interact with credit unions on member issues.

The incumbent is responsible for loan decisions via phone, Internet, indirect, remote login and data entry loan applications. The incumbent will be responsible for problem resolution while also monitoring the quality, efficiency, and accuracy of the loan applications taken by contact center representatives. The incumbent will be responsible for problem resolution of customer and financial institutions, critical issues and department workflow to meet departmental/team goals.**Day in the Life:*** Evaluates loan applications for quality, accuracy, and decisions them based on a review of the applicant’s credit history and in consideration of the guidelines and policies of the client institution.* Decision phone, Internet, indirect, ExpressLink, and data entry applications to support the business as needed while also monitoring the quality, efficiency, and accuracy of the loan applications taken by Contact Center Representatives.* Finalize Velera Representative loan applications.* Evaluate and report on the quality and accuracy of the information templates, including rate changes and promotional information as needed.
