Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or related discipline with minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • 1–2 years of experience and willingness to perform field work for full days.
  • Strong safety mindset and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel across the United States and occasional global trips.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field work: sampling of soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and related tasks.
  • Assist with Phase I/II assessments to support property transfers.
  • Prepare data compilations, reports, and environmental compliance documents.
  • Support groundwater and wastewater system monitoring; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, regulators, tenants, and clients during field activities.

ERM is seeking a Consulting Senior Associate, Environmental Engineer, Geologist, or Scientist, based in Indianapolis. What Your Impact Is

As a Consulting Senior Associate, you will play a key role in collecting environmental data, supporting investigations, evaluating site conditions, and assisting with compliance and remediation efforts. Working closely with project managers and technical specialists, you'll help deliver high-quality environmental solutions while developing skills across multiple environmental disciplines. This position also offers opportunities for travel throughout the United States and, on occasion, globally.

What You'll Bring
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or related environmental discipline. Minimum 3.0 GPA, or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience.
  • Willingness and interest in field assignments; ability to perform field work standing or walking for full field days.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills along with strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a solutions-focused, results-oriented approach and strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or related environmental discipline.
  • Experience recording and writing detailed technical data and reports.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • GIT or EIT certification.
  • Local candidates preferred.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field work, including data collection; soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling; aquifer testing; drilling oversight and soil logging; soil boring and monitoring well installation; well development, purging and sampling; remedial and wastewater treatment pilot tests; remedial system operation and maintenance; and in-plant support.
  • Assist in groundwater and wastewater system performance monitoring.
  • Perform Phase I and II environmental assessments to support property transfer transactions.
  • Compile and evaluate data and assist in report preparation.
  • Prepare environmental compliance work plans, permits, and reports for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, storm water, and wastewater.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Work within quality, budget, schedule expectations, and scope-specific assignments.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.
