Job summary

Rimkus Consulting Group seeks an Experienced Traffic Engineer to investigate, analyze, and reconstruct vehicular collisions, including traffic control system analysis and signal timing plans.

Responsibilities include preparing diagrams, preserving evidence, writing reports, and providing expert testimony in litigation when required. A Bachelor’s in Engineering and PE license are required; 2–10+ years of experience is expected, with travel up to 25%.

  • Part-time and ex-law enforcement officers with 6+ years of accident reconstruction experience.
  • 2-10+ years of experience required.
  • PTOE certification preferred.

  • Provide collision scene evidence analysis and forensic mapping of collision sites and vehicles.

  • Perform timely, accurate analysis, prepare reports, and present findings to the client.
  • Prepare and present demonstrative diagrams, charts, and provide analysis of the cause of various incidents.
  • Document and preserve evidence, prepare written reports of findings, and provide expert testimony in litigation as necessary.
  • Inspect roadways, traffic signals, traffic control devices, cars, trucks, or other various forms of transportation.

Job description

Experienced Traffic Engineer will investigate, analyze, and reconstruct vehicular collisions, including traffic control system analysis, signal timing plans, and traffic control devices related to single and multiple vehicle collisions. The role requires preparing demonstrative diagrams, charts, and analyses of the transportation system as it relates to the collision, and may include inspection of automotive or mechanical parts for failure origin. The engineer will document and preserve evidence, write reports of findings, and provide expert testimony in litigation as necessary.

The Salary Range for this position is $83,300.00 – $124,900.00 per year and is dependent on education, experience, location, and certifications/llicensure.

Essential Job Functions

Required Experience, Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
  • PE license required.

  • Must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site/vehicle inspections.
  • Speak and interact with clients, prepare written reports of findings, and testify in deposition or trial.
  • Must possess the mental aptitude, cognition, concentration, and state of mind necessary to perform job duties.
Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements
  • Physical Demands - While performing this job, the employee must frequently stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Must be able to perform field inspections, physically move debris, inspect vehicles (commercial and tractor-trailer), and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.
  • Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
  • Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% local/regional travel. Out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required.
