Job summary

Cygnet Hospital Wyke seeks an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to provide senior medical cover on Phoenix Ward for male acute mental health care. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, oversee inpatient care, audit medical services, and maintain GMC-compliant standards with a multidisciplinary team.

The role offers progression toward Medical Director level through management schemes, with extensive professional development opportunities and a range of healthcare benefits.

Qualifications

• Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent).
• Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead on the provision of high quality care to the service users admitted to Phoenix Ward.
• Act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.
• Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
• Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users.
• Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis and treatment.
• Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits.
• Lead the implementation of risk assessment and clinical governance within the service.
• Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers’ hearings; attend hearings.
• Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and leave approvals.
• Ensure regular communications with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
• Maintain clear medical notes and reports.
• Participate in CPD and professional development activities.
