Job summary

ERM, a global sustainability consultancy, seeks a Consultant, Engineer in Rolling Meadows, IL to deliver civil/environmental design and field support for energy and industrial projects.

You will work in a remote/hybrid environment with teams across disciplines, researching technical memos, preparing reports, and coordinating with clients while maintaining safety standards. Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering and 2–3 years' experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical, or related engineering field or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Ability to research and prepare technical memorandums, field reports, and report sections.
• Detail-oriented with strong communication for collaboration.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client locations.

Responsibilities

• Support civil/environmental design and project support including site plans and stormwater management.
• Participate in field work, sampling, construction monitoring, and reporting.
• Collaborate with planners, scientists, and engineers across geographies.
• Ensure adherence to ERM Health and Safety Program.

What You'll Bring

Required

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical, or related engineering field, or equivalent experience

• Detail-oriented with strong communication skills for effective collaboration
• Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area

Preferred

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or current registration for the F.E. exam
• Experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D, GIS Software, and/or Hydraflow / HydroCAD
• Prior internship or professional experience in civil/environmental engineering
• Willingness to travel for field work

Key Responsibilities

• Work in a remote/hybrid environment, maintaining clear communication on schedules, deliverables, and priorities
• Assist in civil/environmental design and project support, including:
  • Site plans
  • Erosion and sediment control plans
  • Stormwater management plans
• Participate in field work, sampling, construction monitoring, and reporting
• Manage multiple fast-paced projects across diverse geographies
• Ensure compliance with ERM's world-class Health and Safety Program

For theConsultant, Engineer position, theanticipatedannual base pay is$83,000–$103,200(USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay subject to the sole discretion of ERM and its policies and procedures (casual and fixed term/flex force employees arenot bonuseligible).
