Consultant Design Engineer / Assistant Project Manager – Seattle, WA

WSP is seeking a Consultant Design Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to support municipal and industrial water projects in Washington and beyond.

Your Impact
  • Lead and perform engineering design work for drinking water and wastewater projects.
  • Manage design services for water/wastewater utility projects, including studies, hydraulic modeling, and design of treatment and distribution systems.
  • Develop modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies for clients.
  • Coordinate utility relocations with local utilities.
  • Set up and perform hydraulic modeling for water and sewer systems.
  • Prepare plans and drawings using AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, and other industry-standard design platforms.
  • Prepare design calculations and quantity estimates.
  • Support project managers in scope, cost, schedule, and budgeting for studies, design, and construction services related to water and wastewater projects.
  • Develop cost estimates by taking off quantities and confirming unit costs align with industry standards.
  • Maintain quality‑control standards for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist in concept‑level design of treatment works and analysis of hydrologic and hydraulic models.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations on wastewater and drinking water design.
  • Analyze environmental data from field investigations and develop action plans for threat mitigation.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a focus in Water Resources or a closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of post‑education experience in water resources engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, and design/build processes, including environmental permitting.
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater design, stormwater management, drainage, erosion and sediment control, hydrology & hydraulics, watershed studies, and floodplain delineation.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of reducing and eliminating hazardous substances and mitigation programs.
  • Knowledge of techniques used to identify, measure, sample, and study environmental controls.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Basic experience preparing permit applications for oversight agencies for water resources projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Self‑leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Familiarity with surface water analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (e.g., TR‑55, HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, SRH‑2D), and ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Experience coordinating technical matters with public and private groups.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to analyze data, perform statistical analysis, and develop effective, economical solutions.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek, as required by projects.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential professional licensure or certification.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
Compensation

Expected Salary: $78,600 – $135,000. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and may offer additional benefits and compensation.
