Job summary

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust seeks a Consultant Dermatologist to lead and develop the dermatology service across sites, including paediatric dermatology and teledermatology capabilities. The role includes working within multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care and outcomes, with a focus on expanding specialist pathways and liaising with OMFS surgeons.

The post requires Full GMC Registration with a Dermatology specialty, with expected CESR/CCT within 6 months, and a commitment

Qualifications

Consultant Dermatologist

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a consultant for dermatology to join a developing service within the Surgical Division at Worcestershire Acute Trust.

The Trust recognises that dermatology needed developments due to historic challenges which led to an overhaul of the current service provision.

The clinical and operational team have worked collaboratively to develop a new workforce model. We are utilising MDT approach to facilitate GIRFT recommendations for best practice within our service.

We have expanded the nursing team and extended the skill set to support the patient journey and incorporate a safe and robust pathway including patient trackers, virtual clinics and nurse led surveillance clinics. This has enabled us to improve patient safety and quality.

We are transforming the service to develop specialist areas of practice including teledermatology, paediatric derm, acute general dermatology. We are re-opening pathways including phototherapy and secondary care dermatology whilst working closely with OMFS surgeons to support complex cutaneous skin surgery.

We are looking for a motivated individual to lead the team and nurse consultant and work alongside existing insourcing service provider to drive forward change andimprove skin services for the population of Worcestershire.

Main duties of the job

We are in a position to expand our team to continue to provide a high quality county wide dermatology service. We manage large volumes of suspected skin cancer referrals and all consultants contribute to this as part of the multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking a consultant colleague with an interest in General Dermatology, including paediatric dermatology.

Job responsibilities

This job description, together with the job plan, will be reviewed annually and agreed with the Clinical Director and Divisional Director, on behalf of

the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post and purchaser requirements.

  • A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
  • The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients home. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc and job plans may be revised in due course.
  • The post-holder will provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
  • The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Dermatology
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of clinical problems
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Expertise in sub-specialty
  • Sub specialty fellowship
Management and Administrative Experience
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities
  • Ability to manage and lead the specialty firm and multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit
  • Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate
  • Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making
Teaching Experience
  • Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research

  • Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last 5 years
  • Evidence of having undertaken original research
Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise.
