Job summary

MoDOT is seeking a Construction Technician to support the construction of engineering projects at the O'Fallon Project Office in Missouri. Responsibilities include conducting basic tests, assisting in inspections, and preparing reports under moderate supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, OSHA 10-Hour certification within 90 days, and completion of a work simulation and medical-physical exam. Strong math skills and physical stamina are expected.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED/HiSET is required.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification within 90 days is required.
  • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic construction tests such as air, slump, moisture, compaction, aggregate gradation, and density; reports results to supervisor.
  • Performs measurements and computations for final plans, change orders, and contractor payment estimates.
  • Assists in inspection of bituminous and Portland cement concrete plants and paving.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports; ensures projects meet department standards.
  • Enters and records project information into computer programs.

What You'll Do
  • Performs basic construction tests such as air, slump, moisture, compaction, aggregate gradation, and density; reports results to supervisor.

  • Assists in inspection of bituminous and portland cement concrete plants and/or grading, base, bituminous or concrete paving.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports pertaining to inspections; keeps supervisor informed of activities or unusual conditions; ensures projects meet department standards.
  • Enters and records information regarding construction projects into computer programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification required within 90 days.
  • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

  • Job requires moderate physical activity.
  • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
  • Basic math skills, consistent with high school level algebra, will be necessary to perform many of this title’s duties.
  • Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
