Job summary

ECS Limited is hiring a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician to join our Chesapeake team. No prior experience is required as you’ll learn under senior staff and grow with training, with certification fees covered.

You’ll conduct field observations, testing, and sampling of soils, aggregates, and concrete on project sites. As you gain experience, ECS supports professional development and certification opportunities (OSHA 10, ACI, ASNT, etc.).

Qualifications

• No experience required; paid training provided.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 85 pounds.
• Willing to obtain knowledge of CMT principles and ASTM standards.
• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, writing).
• Valid driver’s license and insurance required.

Responsibilities

• Field Activities: Observe, test, and sample soils, aggregates, and concrete at project sites under supervision.
• Testing Procedures: Perform routine field tests using industry-standard methods and equipment.
• Data Collection: Compute and summarize results; assist with drafting and admin tasks as needed.
• Communication: Maintain daily contact with contractors and project managers; report site changes.
• Training and Development: Receive ECS methodology training and document findings accurately.

ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician to join our Chesapeake team and advance in a dynamic work environment. No prior experience is needed, as you'll work under the guidance of experienced professionals to learn to safely perform a variety of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Field Activities: Conduct observation, testing, and sampling of materials, including soils, aggregates, and concrete on construction materials testing project sites; Execute tasks based on project requirements under the guidance of senior technicians, staff professionals, and project managers.


• Testing Procedures: Conduct routine field and/or laboratory tests for soils, aggregates, and concrete using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance.


• Data Collection: Perform calculations and data reduction based on sampling, test results, and inspection; May assist with calculations, drafting, and other administrative duties as requested.


• Communication: Maintain daily communication with site contractors, fellow technicians, and project managers; Communicate changing site conditions and additional requested testing to supervisor; Attend project meetings as requested; Assist with organization of field equipment and notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed.


• Training and Development: Receive training in ECS methodology for project observations, inspections, and testing; Document findings with precision in accordance with accepted engineering practices.

• Willing to obtain knowledge of CMT principles and applications, as well as ASTM laboratory standards, leading to certifications in soils, concrete, and radiation safety.


• OSHA 10 certification may be required.


• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).


• Ability to work effectively with contractors, peers, and supervisors.

The expected pay range for this role and location is $18/hour. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
