Job description

Supervise total construction effort to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, architectural/engineering, and subcontractors. Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily onsite functions such as subcontractor scheduling, production, and workmanship. Position has the potential to oversee one or more jobs/areas at a time and may require travel. The project is located on an active US military base, so applicants will be required to pass a government background check. The Superintendent/SSHO position may also require some minor labor duties, such as site cleanup, protect in place, touch up/ punch list items, or picking up materials for workers. Work Locations: Out-of-town travel may be required on projects located at but not limited to Naval Base Ventura County, Military Ocean Terminal Concord. Travel expenses covered by CMS include housing, flights, and fuel. Other locations may include but are not limited to: Southern California, Northern California. 4/10 or 5/8 schedule, dependent on job location. $110,000 - $132,000 salary depending on qualifications and experience.

Superintendent Responsibilities
  • Directly oversee job site personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work schedules and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Work with the Project Manager and Scheduler in the development and refinement of the project schedule, to keep the schedules properly updated, and see that the job meets the completion date.
  • Create or alter small project schedules using MS Project and MS Excel.
  • Proficient in reading construction drawings and specifications.
  • Oversee procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specific times to conform to work schedules.
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adherence to construction schedules.
  • Prepare or review reports on project progress and real-time costs with the ability to adjust work schedules as needed to keep the project on time and on budget.
  • Prepare all field operations, including material tickets, 3-week schedule, progress schedule, daily reports, quality control and safety reports, definable features of work.
  • Oversee and schedule CMS laborers.
  • Schedule, manage, and supervise completion of a final punch list.
  • Manage monthly project progress billings.
  • Ensure all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications, and costs.
SSHO Responsibilities
  • Issue safety reprimands and corrective action recommendations when safety concerns are present.
  • Spearhead and document construction site risk assessments, safety audits, and safety meetings.
  • Conduct incident and injury evaluations and investigate job-site safety reports.
  • Assure personal protective equipment is used correctly and readily available.
  • Verify compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) safety regulations and safety standards on site.
  • Lead construction health and safety training programs, including new hire safety orientation.
  • Create and execute workplace safety programs, emergency response plans, construction safety policies, and job-site hazard analyses.
  • Work with construction managers and project managers to ensure all potential risk management and safety issues are addressed.
  • The SSHO is responsible for managing, implementing, and enforcing the project Accident Prevention Plan.
  • The SSHO shall provide full-time on-site safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, training, and safety enforcement.
  • Assist in Preparation of Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and ensure that it is followed by all employees, subcontractors, and vendors at each service site (The APP shall incorporate Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and Situation Specific Safety Plans that are relevant to the site-specific hazards and controls for each activity and type of work that may be encountered on the contract).
  • Coordination of safety issues with the Quality Control Manager and site Superintendent on new definable features of work.
  • Maintain current SDS (MSDS) list of hazardous chemicals on-site.
  • Ability to coordinate, document, and enforce safety and health on various construction sites.
  • Oversee and manage the onsite execution of all field activities regarding Health and Safety procedures while exercising his'her authority to temporarily suspend workers from the job site for serious Health & Safety violations.
Qualifications
  • Certificate in the successful completion of the Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) course.
  • An undergraduate degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management is preferred.
  • 5 plus years of construction experience, a minimum of 3-5 years in a CQCM role.
  • Experience in large-scale construction management or construction trade with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Federal government construction experience (Air Force, Corps of Engineers, and NAVFAC) a plus.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem-solving situations; use reason when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar; vary writing style to meet needs; present numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.
  • Manage difficult customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.
  • Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listens and gets clarification, and responds well to questions.
  • Proficient computer experience including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Procore, and Microsoft project scheduling, RMS 3.0 (USACE contracts) required.
