Job summary

Wolverine Construction is seeking a Superintendent III to lead complex commercial construction projects, coordinating with PMs, trade partners, and Safety. The role emphasizes safety, schedule adherence, budget control, and client satisfaction across ground-up and historic renovation projects in the Grand Rapids area.

The candidate should have 10+ years of superintendent experience, a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent, and a valid driver’s license; OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and heavy

  • Extensive knowledge/experience in historic renovations.
  • Minimum 10 years leading construction crews as a Superintendent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Attend internal kickoff meetings and review project details with PM; create site plans and coordinate approvals.
  • Set up the job site and temporary office; coordinate delivery of long-lead materials.
  • Conduct pre-start meetings with subcontractors; manage schedules and coordinate trades.
  • Create and update the overall project schedule; lead progress meetings and review status.
  • Assist PM with schedule recovery; follow up on RFIs; maintain daily activity logs in Procore.
  • Ensure quality control; resolve subcontractor disputes; document changes.
  • Coordinate drawings updates and field expenses in Procore; share weekly look-aheads.
  • Champion safety; conduct trainings; record incidents and safety meetings.
  • Coordinate inspections; manage building officials; oversee project closeout and punch lists.
  • Manage client relationships and expectations; seek repeat business; maintain professional environment.
  • Collaborate with PM to capture lessons learned and foster community relations.

The Superintendent III leads complex commercial construction projects and organizes and directs multiple trade partners, and suppliers. Supervises crews to ensure projects are completed within the established goals for safety, timeliness, budget, and customer satisfaction. Ensures proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, bringing problems to the attention of Supervisor, Safety, and Human Resources.
  • Attends internal kickoff meetings to establish initial communication and reviews project details with PM, including contracts, drawings, and schedules. Creates site-specific plans and coordinates with PM for approval.
  • Sets up the job site and temporary office following company protocols. Coordinates delivery and staging of long lead time materials.
  • Conducts pre-start meetings with subcontractors to review scope, schedule, and expectations. Manages work schedules with trade partners and coordinates activities among trades.
  • Creates and updates the overall project schedule in collaboration with the PM. Holds regular progress meetings with stakeholders to review job status, safety, and upcoming tasks.
  • Assists PM in schedule recovery and follows up on RFIs with architects/engineers/designers. Keeps a daily log of activities, including work details, photos, and timings in Procore.
  • Ensures quality control and holds subcontractors accountable. Resolves subcontractor disputes and communicates solutions and changes to PMs, documenting all relevant details.
  • Manages updates to drawings and code field expenses in Procore. Prepares and shares a weekly look-ahead schedule detailing upcoming work sequences.
  • Prioritizes and champions safety from project start to finish, providing training and monitoring compliance. Records safety incidents, conducts inspections, and holds trades accountable for safety meetings.
  • Implements safety measures, schedules reports, follows established safety rules, and ensures a clean and orderly jobsite, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Coordinates inspections across various domains, manages building officials, and oversees project closeout with PM, ensuring a comprehensive punch list.
  • Manages client relationships and expectations, striving for repeat business, and collects client feedback. Ensures professionalism in all interactions and maintains a positive project environment.
  • Collaborates with PM to track company "lessons learned", shares feedback with the team, and fosters resourceful stewardship and community relations.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience in construction ground up multi-unit housing.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience in construction historic renovations.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience leading construction crews as a Superintendent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

The following trainings are required (and provided by Wolverine):

  • OSHA 30 or completed within six months of hire.
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Heavy machine operator card, rigging awareness, asbestos awareness, and aerial work platform operator training.
