Job summary

SLSCO LTD. is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent based in New York, NY, to manage housing division projects across the United States. The Superintendent will oversee all construction activities, ensuring they meet company standards for quality and safety.

SLS is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to join a fast‑growing and dynamic Housing Division in pursuit of heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout the United States. The Construction Superintendent will be responsible for managing all self‑performing crews to ensure the project is delivered safely on time, on budget, and of the highest quality. The Construction Superintendent will report to the Project Manager or Project Executive and will regularly interface with Client representatives.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the timely completion of the project and ensuring that the project is constructed in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and local codes.
  • Schedule all subcontractors, consultants, and vendors in the critical path (with project team) to ensure timely completion.
  • Establish and enforce job site quality control programs to ensure quality completion of construction.
  • Ensure that subcontractors are fully executing and complying with the contracted scope of work.
  • Communicate with Project Manager regarding ASIs, RFIs, and material submittals.
  • Coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions.
  • Identify subcontractor non‑compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards and take appropriate steps to correct non‑compliance.
  • Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to project team for resolution.
  • Maintain daily log of activities on the jobsite using company’s project software.
  • Ensure that the subcontractor has corrected all deficiencies identified by project team.
  • Walk all the areas of the site on a daily basis to monitor activities and assist in the future planning.
  • Preside over weekly subcontractor meetings designed to coordinate the work.
  • Perform job progress and completion punch list identification and completion.
  • Prepare daily reports to maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Arrange for labor, tools, equipment, and other supplies needed to perform General Conditions work or other items as determined by project team.
  • Prepare timesheets/ sign‑in sheets for all labor, if applicable, and other on‑site staff.
  • Manage the workforce efficiently to render the job site safe and clean, and to ensure all areas are ready for trades to perform their work as scheduled.
  • Review construction drawings to understand design intent, identify potential conflicts, and provide suggestions for improvement where possible.
  • Perform quality inspections in accordance with company quality control systems; participate and guide project quality control from kick‑off until final turnover of the project.
  • Monitor safety compliance on jobsite.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management, including but not limited to participating in preplanning for future jobs, conducting evaluations of trade performance, completing project close‑out reports, and overseeing completion of post‑occupancy repair work.
  • Responsible for leading regular toolbox talks.
  • Responsible for coordinating any required Department of Building inspections and sign offs.
Knowledge And Skills Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant construction‑related discipline, such as construction management, engineering or architecture, a plus
  • NYC DOB Licensed Superintendent
  • Site Safety Training SST card and OSHA 30‑hour Construction Safety and Health card
  • Minimum of 5 years of Project Superintendent experience, required
  • 5 years + Experience in Civil work, Site work, and Concrete work preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction trades and respective union, nonunion and prevailing wage requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as site safety plans, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to safely navigate a construction site which will include the following: climbing ladders and stairs, use of job hoists, inclement weather conditions, hazardous/cluttered and dark areas
  • Excellent communication abilities, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of construction budgeting best practices
  • Strong planning skills, including design execution, resource allocation and contingencies.
  • Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and maintenance
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal construction regulations
  • Great problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
  • Effective leadership abilities, able to motivate team, set goals and resolve conflicts
  • Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, prioritization, and multitasking
  • Previous NYCHA experience a plus.
  • NYC affordable housing experience a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Knowledge of Procore required; knowledge of eBuilder is a plus
