Job summary

Riley Construction in Wisconsin is seeking a Superintendent to coordinate all construction activities on site, managing manpower, subcontractors, budgets, schedules, plans and specifications in alignment with company policies.

Ideal candidates should be union-minded or willing to join the union, with strong leadership, communication skills, and a background in construction field supervision across projects of varying size.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.

• STP modules completed or willing to complete.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist project management in pre-construction planning, including developing procedures, schedules and budgets.
• Study specifications to plan procedures and staffing for each construction phase.
• Order procurement of tools, equipment and materials to meet work schedules.
• Oversee foremen and maintain safety and cleanliness on site; lead toolbox talks.
• Attend weekly safety and progress meetings and, at times, run them.
• Coordinate with owners, clients and architects to resolve issues; implement changes to documents.
• Confers with supervisory and labor to resolve complaints and improve methods.
• Inspect progress to ensure workmanship aligns with specs and schedules.
• Prepare or review reports on progress, materials used and costs.
• Complete accurate documentation on daily logs, time tickets and time cards.
• Conduct post-construction review once job is finished.

The Superintendent is responsible for the coordination of all construction activities at a project site with respect to manpower, subcontractors, budgets, schedules, plans and specifications and policies and procedures.

* The candidate should either be a Union member or willing to join the Union upon hire.

Responsibilities: (Include, but not limited to)

• Assist project management in pre-construction planning, including developing and implementing project procedures, construction documents, detailed work schedules, job budget, etc.
• Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
• Orders procurement of tools, equipment and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
• Oversees mason foremen and maintains order, safety and cleanliness on the job site, including weekly toolbox talks.
• Attend and participate in weekly job safety and progress meetings. Occasionally the Superintendent is required to run these meetings.
• Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
• Direct contact with owners, clients and architects.
• Implements changes on job site, such as trades changes, RFIs, changes to the construction documents, etc.
• Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within workforce.
• Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.
• Maintains labor and equipment cost control.
• Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
• Complete accurate documentation on daily work logs, time and material tickets, time cards, etc.
• Conducts post-construction review once job is finished.

Requirements:

• A high school certificate or equivalent is required.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Construction field experience
• Can directly supervise 1 - 40 employees, depending on the size of the project, including Riley personnel and subcontractors.
• A new candidate should have completed the Supervisory Training Program (STP) modules sponsored by the AGC.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Must possess good communication skills as the Superintendent is in constant contact with owners, architects, suppliers, subcontractors, Riley employees and the public via telephone, fax, e-mail, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
