Job summary

Hoar Construction is seeking qualified interns for our Summer 2027 program in Houston, TX. This internship exposes students to estimating, project management, and field operations as part of a hands-on learning experience.

You will gain understanding of construction processes, participate in quantity takeoff, submittals, project documentation, and site setup, with mentorship and real-world responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time in a relevant four-year or advanced degree program.
• GPA 2.5 or higher required.
• Commitment to 40 hours per week during spring semester.
• Completion of college freshman year.
• Interest in construction industry after graduation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Understand the construction process and participate in estimating and field exposure.
• Assist in quantity takeoffs/quantity estimating.
• Support submittal process and review shop drawings and submittals.
• Prepare transmittals for project documentation distribution.
• Assist in jobsite setup, permitting, and closeout.

Job description

Hoar is recruiting qualified applicants for our Internship Program who are studying civil engineering, construction engineering or building/construction sciences for the Summer 2027 term. This position typically gains exposure to estimating, project management, and the field.

Duties include:

• Gaining an understanding of the construction process
• Participating in quantity takeoff/quantity estimating
• Working with the submittal process: maintaining appropriate logs, reviewing and approvingshop drawings and submittals
• Preparing transmittals for distribution for project documentation
• Assisting in jobsite setup, permitting, and closeout
• Candidates should possess computer skills including working with spreadsheets, good communication skills, and a willingness to handle responsibility.

Requirements:

• Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university pursuing a four year or advanced degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Building Science
• Must maintain a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week during the springsemester
• Completed college freshman year
• Desire to pursue a career in the construction industry upon graduation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Valid Driver's License

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Environment: Work is performed mainly in an indoor and outdoor setting with exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions, and travel from site to site.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
