Job description

The Safety Engineer is responsible for project-wide safety and health administration including reviewing specific on-site programs, performing site audits, participating in incident investigations, training personnel, assisting with managing workers’ compensation claims, and administering first aid when necessary. This position may interact with all personnel on a project site at various times. In this role you may be required to travel up to 40% of the time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Administers both the GC and Owner safety program requirements.
  • Develops specific onsite programs, as required.
  • Performs site audits for unsafe practices and conditions—makes recommendations and/or knows specific regulations on proper corrections.
  • Leads and performs accident investigations.
  • Trains personnel.
  • Reports WC claims and performs onsite WC administration for both Hoar Construction and subcontractor injuries.
  • Performs recordkeeping/document control for HAZCOM, training etc. This includes various reports to Owner.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining Hazard Analysis Documentation.
  • Administers First Aid, CPR, AED where necessary.
  • Stays current on safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties and services to ensure a successful project is delivered and the client is satisfied.
  • Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Promotes compliance with the company Health and Safety Program (HSP) and assists the project team with meeting company safety goals.
  • Assists in the implementation of safety‑related programs to meet or exceed company safety standards.
  • Performs and documents jobsite safety inspections with special emphasis on hazard recognition and unsafe behaviors to prevent incidents and correct unsafe working conditions.
  • Assists the project team in reviewing Job Hazard Analysis and safety submittals.
  • Participates in pre‑construction meetings when requested to analyze risk and support the project team by effectively identifying hazards associated with various scopes of work.
  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of safety meetings to ensure company safety requirements are effectively communicated.
  • Ensures project safety documentation is maintained and filed in compliance with the Health and Safety Program (HSP).
  • Assists the project team in developing and conducting jobsite safety orientations.
Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Experience
  • 0–3 years of field experience in construction safety plus a 4‑year degree in a safety‑related discipline OR five (5) years of experience dedicated solely to building construction safety or equivalent combinations of CSP, OHST, CHST, etc.
  • Current OSHA 500 or 502 training within the last four years.
  • Current Emergency First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within the last two years.
  • Working knowledge, experience, and documented continuing education in fall protection, scaffolds, excavation, confined space, crane/equipment operations, electrical, and incident investigation and other safety/health related training.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
