Job summary

Peak Demand, a commercial solar developer, is seeking a Construction Project Manager to oversee C&I projects from award through turnover across Southern California. You’ll manage budgets, schedules, safety, and coordination with subs, vendors, and authorities on multi-site jobs.

The role requires 5+ years in solar/construction, strong leadership, and travel across the project territory. Proficiency with Smartsheet and MS Project is preferred; California residency and a valid driver's license are

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing commercial solar and BESS projects.
  • 3+ years of experience overseeing commercial construction and field supervision.
  • Experience interpreting construction drawings and ensuring field work aligns with approved plans.
  • Experience coordinating as-built documentation with inspection authorities.
  • Knowledge of utility interconnection, permitting and inspection procedures.
  • Proficiency with Smartsheet and Microsoft Project.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • California residency and a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel across project territory.
  • Strong organization and ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously.
  • OSHA 30, PMP or related certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project costs, schedules, and contractual requirements throughout construction and closeout.
  • Oversee subcontractors, suppliers, and engineering partners and negotiate agreements related to their work.
  • Establish clear expectations for scopes, safety requirements, and project timelines.
  • Review project requirements early to determine necessary permits, jurisdictional approvals, utility coordination, interconnection activities, and site‑specific safety needs.
  • Coordinate with utilities and local authorities to complete approvals, inspections, grid connection requirements, and final operating authorization.
  • Use Smartsheet to maintain visibility into project spending, construction progress, forecasts, and reporting.
  • Follow equipment and material orders through delivery and address procurement issues that could affect construction.
  • Maintain an active presence at project sites and lead project kickoff and progress meetings.
  • Oversee construction quality, jobsite safety, and resolution of remaining work before completion.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact during construction, system startup, training, and transition to the O&M team.

Job description

We are working with an established commercial solar developer based in Southern California with a specific focus on helping large commercial and industrial customers and completing complex, multi-site projects in retail and other commercial sectors across the west coast.

The Construction Project Manager will oversee C&I projects following contract award through construction, startup, and final turnover. This role combines end-to-end project ownership with regular involvement at active job sites. Projects span California’s Central Valley through the San Diego region, with travel required based on project schedules and needs.

What You’ll Do

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • 5+ years of experience managing commercial solar and BESS projects.
  • 3+ years of experience overseeing commercial construction and/or supervising work in the field.
  • Experience interpreting approved construction drawings and confirming that field work is completed in accordance with permitted plans.
  • Experience coordinating as-built documentation with inspection authorities.
  • Working knowledge of utility interconnection and local permitting and inspection procedures.
  • Proficiency with Smartsheet and Microsoft Project.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • California residency and a valid driver’s license.
  • Availability to travel throughout the project territory.
  • Strong organization and the ability to independently manage several active projects at once.
  • Commercial solar or commercial electrical experience is strongly preferred. OSHA 30, PMP, and other relevant certifications are considered a plus.

Salary range: $120K - $150K
