Job summary

Turner & Townsend Heery is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to work on higher education construction projects in Los Angeles. The role requires a self-starter with strong communication, initiative, and the ability to work with limited supervision.

Responsibilities include interfacing with clients and consultants, budgeting, scheduling, change control, governance, quality, and business development.

Qualifications

  • Seven years experience as a PM on public sector projects.
  • Ability to travel daily to client location in Santa Barbara, CA.
  • Excellent organization, written and verbal skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to advise at a strategic level during project conception.
  • Great time management skills and quality standards focus.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and cross-workstreams on commissions.
  • Business development opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Ability to share and retain key information.

  • Preparing formal project budget progress and other reports.
  • Quality control – ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Working to construct proposals for new work or variations for existing projects.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve PM procedures, templates and products.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate line manager is aware of quality, safety, health and environment issues.
  • Establishing effective project governance, processes and systems to be utilized throughout the project.
  • Providing line management responsibilities as required.
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role.

Job description

Turner & Townsend Heery is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to work on construction projects with higher education clients in Los Angeles.

The ideal candidate will be a self‑starter, have excellent communication skills, be able to take the initiative and drive activities with limited supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Interfacing with the client and other consultants at all project stages.
  • Financial management – ensuring prompt client invoicing and utilizing the financial system to monitor a project’s financial status.
  • Project planning, including producing the detailed project plan.
  • Monitoring and applying performance management techniques.
  • Managing the change control process.
  • Managing the flow of project information between the team and the client through regular meetings and written communications.
  • Preparing formal project budget progress and other reports.
  • Quality control – ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Working to construct proposals for new work or variations for existing projects.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve Project Management procedures, templates and products and referring ideas to the appropriate line manager.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate line manager is aware of quality, safety, health and environment issues.
  • Establishing effective project governance, processes and systems to be utilized throughout the project.
  • Providing line management responsibilities as required.
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Seven years experience as a PM on public sector projects of varying type – primarily public sector, vertical, renovations, deferred maintenance, and tenant improvements.
  • Ability to travel every day to client location in Santa Barbara, CA – on‑site or at project site – limited remote work.
  • Excellent organization, written and verbal skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to advise at a strategic level during the project conception stage, including providing advice on the different approaches that can be adopted in order to successfully achieve the client’s overall objectives.
  • Great time management skills. Ensure that the project is managed to the right quality standards, completed efficiently and on time.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and cross‑functional team members.
  • Experienced working as an effective team member within the context of delivering a specific commission.
  • Business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross‑selling opportunities, are identified.
  • Key information and data is effectively shared and appropriately retained.
Education / Experience
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Project Manager within the public sector construction industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to be highly effective in a client facing role.
  • BS degree in construction management, engineering or architecture (an AA can be acceptable with sufficient project experience).
  • Experience in using various PMiS software.
  • Skilled in MS Office, Adobe, Bluebeam.
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations preferred (CCM, PMP, PE).
  • Experienced managing demanding stakeholders and work stream managers.
  • Experience working in the state of California preferred.

The salary range for this full‑time role is $125k-$160k per year. Ranges are determined by role and level and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range is a reflection of base salary only, not of a total compensation package. Please note Turner & Townsend reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on candidate’s experience and qualifications.
