Project Executive

Gray Construction is looking for a Project Executive to join the Data Center Market with locations in Dallas, TX; Jackson, MS; Lexington, KY; and Reno, NV.

Responsibilities
Project Administration
  • Facilitate customer and team meetings, ensuring detailed minutes and action items are recorded, updated, and distributed in a timely manner.
  • Hold all required project start‑up meetings with appropriate team members.
  • Track and complete project action items systematically to support project requirements.
  • Ensure project staff completes submittal reviews, status reports, close‑out documents, and maintenance manuals promptly.
  • Visit project sites regularly.
Financial Success
  • Continuously monitor progress, identify budget or cost issues early, develop corrective actions, and report to responsible leadership.
  • Operate within budgetary limits and requirements.
  • Develop project proposals and execution strategies that evolve with the project, with buy‑in from construction, A/E, MEP, and field ops teams.
  • Monitor purchases of materials, subcontracts, equipment, and services for optimal savings while meeting safety, quality, scheduling, training, and profitability requirements.
  • Ensure change orders are issued to subcontractors and customers per procedures.
  • Manage red files and job cost reports with the site manager monthly.
Schedule Performance
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the project master schedule to ensure conformance with execution strategy and contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with field ops, A/E, and MEP services to assess schedule progress, identify issues, and assist in corrective measures.
  • Document and communicate any project delays appropriately, producing notices and justifying extensions as necessary.
Risk Management
  • Ensure contractual terms in owner contracts and subcontracts are understood by all parties and action taken accordingly.
  • Meet safety, quality, scheduling, training, and profitability goals, promoting and implementing relevant programs.
  • Develop the project risk management plan, assign responsibilities, and report progress.
  • Assess plan effectiveness and collaborate with field ops, A/E, and MEP services to implement changes.
  • Oversee corrective actions for risk mitigation until issues are resolved.
  • Demonstrate a consistent, clear problem‑solving approach.
Relationship Management
  • Act as the primary customer contact and account manager, serving as a transitional stop before escalation to director level.
  • Develop relationship management plans and assign responsibilities for reporting progress.
  • Coordinate with A/E services regarding consultants and incorporate plans into the project execution plan.
  • Assess plan effectiveness and collaborate to adapt plans or corrective actions.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities and core‑value alignment within and beyond the project team.
  • Maintain continuity of workflow during absences or terminations of subordinates or project staff.
Team Member Development
  • Ensure project staff support and abide by the company’s vision, core values, and mission.
  • In coordination with field ops, A/E, and MEP services monitor team cohesiveness and develop corrective action plans.
  • Mentor and train senior project managers, project managers, and assistant project managers and engineers.
Collaboration
  • Maintain a cooperative work environment with engineering, design, and construction site staff.
  • Communicate regularly with other project executives and responsible leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university; or a minimum of ten years of related experience and training; or an equivalent combination.
  • Minimum seven consecutive years total profit and loss accountability on multiple projects.
  • Minimum five years of experience managing all disciplines of design/build or hard‑bid projects for the market served.
  • Experience in lump‑sum, GMP, cost‑plus construction management, and fee‑based construction contracting, and understanding of legal aspects of contractual language.
  • A proven record of increasing project profitability from initial margin on multiple projects.
  • Knowledgeable in technical aspects of engineering and design disciplines sufficient to represent the company as the primary point of contact with customers.
  • Informed on cost and fee structures associated with engineering and design services offered.
  • Understanding of the impact of design, engineering, or construction changes on cost, schedule, construction management, and operations.
  • Experience managing projects that included procurement or installation of process or production equipment above two million dollars each.
  • Ability to mentor or train other project staff.
  • Proven experience developing aggressive schedules for projects with variable timing.
  • Proven experience preparing cost estimates for design/build projects in the industrial arena.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with owners, co‑workers, vendors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.
Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical publications, or government regulations, write reports and business correspondence, effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to develop, interpret, and understand complex financial information.

Mathematical Skills

Basic business mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables, and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or other forms.

Other Skills And Abilities

Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and e‑mail applications; working knowledge of scheduling and/or estimating applications.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands or arms, and talk or hear frequently. May occasionally be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision. Normal office environment with moderate noise level and controlled temperature/humidity. Overtime may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise multiple team members in various positions and external resources.
