Job summary

STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES seeks a Project Engineer through our Career Development program to develop essential construction skills on challenging projects along the East Coast, with a strong emphasis on in-field learning, scheduling, estimating and cost control.

Based in Manassas, VA, this in-office role involves travel about 75% of the year to support post-tensioning and parking structure work, and leadership development through mentorship across multiple competencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in CM, CE, or related field.
  • 2.8+ cumulative GPA.
  • At least one relevant internship.
  • Willing to travel 30–50% of the year.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude.
  • Reliable transportation to job sites.

Our Project Engineer Career Development (PECD) program is a cornerstone of our growth and development philosophy. With an emphasis on in-field learning and development, our Project Engineers can expect to master critical construction skills, including:

The goal of our PECD program is to develop our people into company leaders. In order to accomplish that, the PECD program has been structured with a competency based approach along with an emphasis on individual mentorship. Our Project Engineers will build experience across multiple competencies before being promoted into the career path they desire - project management, estimating, construction management and more.

About the Team

VSL DC's office is located in Manassas, VA and is primarily an in-office position. While our Project Engineers are based in Manassas, the branch is heavily travel oriented.

Projects range throughout the East Coast, Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley Region, and candidates can expect to be on the road for close to 75% of the year to start.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree is required. Preference for Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field of study
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or higher
  • A minimum of one relevant internship experience
  • The ability and eagerness to travel 30-50% of the year
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional documentation and organizational skills
  • Aptitude for solving problems
  • Reliable transportation from the office to job-sites
