Mission Critical – Project Director Operations

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Hyper-Scale Project Director of Data Center Construction who will lead and manage large-scale and complex data center construction projects. The role requires strong technical expertise, extensive project management experience, and the ability to secure new business within the mission critical sector. The Project Director is responsible for assembling project delivery teams with the requisite qualifications and experience and working with cross-functional teams to ensure successful initiation, planning, construction, and closure of projects.

Location

You can be located anywhere in the US, if you are highly willing to travel to our client projects on a long-term basis.

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Strategy: Developing comprehensive construction plans, defining scope, goals, and deliverables in alignment with organizational objectives
  • Team Leadership: Leading cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, and ensuring effective communication among stakeholders
  • Resource Management: Allocating resources efficiently, managing budgets, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope
  • Risk Management: Identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and outcomes
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicating with internal and external stakeholders, including executives, clients, and vendors, to ensure alignment and address any concerns
  • Performance Monitoring: Tracking project progress through metrics and reporting, adjusting plans as necessary to meet changing requirements or challenges
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring that all deliverables meet the required quality standards and compliance regulations
  • Innovation and Improvement: Continuously seeking ways to optimize processes and improve project outcomes through innovative technologies or methodologies

The Project Director will support client new work efforts, oversee hiring initiatives, ensure safety, budget, quality, schedule, and profitability performance. Overall, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of projects that drive significant growth and innovation within the organization and serve our client’s needs.

Qualifications

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Project Management, Business Administration, or other technical discipline and approximately fifteen (15) + of related work experience including five (5) years in a leadership role
  • Proven track record in project management, particularly in the construction industry
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with experience assembling and leading project delivery teams
  • Experience in the following required:
  • managing large-scale and complex data center projects with budgets between $100-300M
  • A valid driver’s license in the US and a valid passport required; willingness and ability to travel; travel is estimated at 70+%

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Strong history of leading, motivating and mentoring cross-functional teams
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, laws, standards, and regulations
  • Successful background maintaining high safety standards and delivering quality outcomes
  • Experience in developing and implementing project strategies, plans, schedules and budgets while working with project teams

Technologies and methodologies to attain goals

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM): This technology is essential for planning, designing, and managing data center construction projects. It helps in creating detailed 3D models and improving collaboration among stakeholders
  • Project Management Software: Tools like MS Office Suite, Procore, CMiC, and P6 are commonly used for managing project schedules, budgets, and resources
  • Cloud-based Project Management Tools: These tools help in keeping all communications, documents, and tasks in one place, boosting teamwork and coordination
  • Sustainability Practices: Implementing energy-efficient strategies and sustainable construction practices is vital for modern data center projects

  • Established technical knowledge, encompassing construction and engineering processes, procurement, project controls reporting, and contract management
  • Proficiency in budget management, financial forecasting, and resource allocation
  • Experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and adapt to changing project requirements
  • Accountable for safety, budget, quality, schedule, and profitability performance
  • Oversee the development and implantation of a quality management plan and quality culture with stakeholder buy in
  • Oversee and assesses design documentation, coordinating with relevant team members, and addresses issues related to the scope creep, cost optimization, procurement, completeness, accuracy, and quality of designs at different stages of development and construction
  • Manages and monitors areas identified from the design documents that require interdisciplinary coordination, scope gaps and technical risk
