Job Title: Construction Observer

Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Are you an experienced construction professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for ensuring projects are built to the highest standards? At Bohannan Huston, we offer an opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in a role that directly contributes to the successful execution of engineering projects. As a Construction Observer, you will play a critical role in overseeing the construction phase of projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.

Your Role & Responsibilities

• Provide daily observation of construction activities to verify compliance with project plans and specifications.
• Prepare and maintain accurate daily field reports.
• Track material quantities and unit prices.
• Interpret plans and specifications and maintain a red‑line set of construction drawings.
• Assist contractors with RFIs and review material submittals.
• Conduct field testing of construction materials.
• Retrieve and document construction material samples.
• Perform other tasks associated with construction observation and inspection as assigned.
• Travel required across southern New Mexico.

What We Are Looking For

• Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
• Industry Experience: at least 3+ years of experience in roadway or utility infrastructure construction either with an engineering firm or as an employee of a general construction contractor.
• Project and Construction Knowledge: past experience in construction management or observation.
• Technical and Communication Skills: written and oral communication skills, computer skills (Word and Excel), ability to track unit price quantities, read plans, and understand standard specifications.
• Personal Strengths: determined, organized, detail oriented, and customer focused.
• Bonus Skills: construction materials laboratory testing experience is a plus.
