Job summary

Froehling & Robertson, Inc. is seeking a CMT Technician to inspect contractor work at construction sites and perform field soil and concrete tests under supervision. Data is entered in the field for rapid transmission to project managers.

The role requires 12+ months of experience, a high school diploma, and valid driver's license. Travel to sites is required, with safety training and pre-employment screenings. Competitive benefits are offered by F&R.

Qualifications

  • 12+ months of relevant experience.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Some construction experience is required. Prior experience in Field testing is preferred.
  • Maintenance of certifications in soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry per ACI/State DOT/ICC.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, and perform field and lab calculations.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Valid driver's license and good-standing driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Performing field materials testing of soil, asphalt, masonry and concrete.
  • Preparing detailed and complete field reports with all relevant test results and inspections/observations provided.
  • Performing basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and preparing reports of results.
  • Evaluating site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and providing recommendations.
  • Communicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Who we are looking for:

As a CMT Technician, you will help ensure public safety by traveling to construction sites to inspect the contractor's work, and perform basic field soil and concrete tests under the direction of other F&R technicians or engineering professionals to verify the work is performed in accordance with project specifications. With minimal paperwork involved, all inspections/observations and test data is input on smart phones/tablets in the field for immediate transmittal to our Project Managers for review.

What you need to have:
  • 12+ months of relevant experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Some construction experience is required. Prior experience in Field testing is preferred.
  • Maintenance of ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Valid driver's license and good-standing driving record
  • Some travel will be required
  • Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
  • Ability to continuously stand and walk throughout the day
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Ability to work outside in frequent changes of temperatures
  • Ability to occasionally bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, and pull
  • Ability to work in environments containing dust and fumes
  • Ability to frequently drive to and from work sites, must have valid driver's license with good-standing driving record
