Job summary

Froehling & Robertson, Inc. is seeking a CMT Technician to inspect contractor work at construction sites and perform field soil, asphalt, masonry and concrete tests. You will document results for project managers and input data via mobile devices in the field.

The role requires traveling to sites, reading plans, maintaining certifications, and clear communication with clients and staff. Physical work, safety focus, and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• 12+ months of field testing experience.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Some construction experience required; field testing preferred.
• Certifications in soils, reinforced concrete and masonry.
• Ability to read plans, specs and safety rules.
• Ability to estimate quantities and perform field/lab calculations.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Valid driver's license with good-standing driving record.
• Willingness to travel and pass pre-employment screenings.
• Able to lift up to 70 lbs and work outdoors in varying temps.

Responsibilities

Who We Are Looking For

As a CMT Technician, you will help ensure public safety by traveling to construction sites to inspect the contractor's work, and perform basic field soil and concrete tests under the direction of other F&R technicians or engineering professionals to verify the work is performed in accordance with project specifications. With minimal paperwork involved, all inspections/observations and test data is input on smart phones/tablets in the field for immediate transmittal to our Project Managers for review.

What You’ll Be Doing

Including but not limited to:

• Performing field materials testing of soil, asphalt, masonry and concrete
• Preparing detailed and complete field reports with all relevant test results and inspections/observations provided
• Performing basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and preparing reports of results
• Evaluating site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and providing recommendations
• Communicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues
• Other duties as assigned

What You Need To Have

• 12+ months of relevant experience
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Some construction experience is required. Prior experience in Field testing is preferred.
• Maintenance of ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals
• Excellent attention to details
• Valid driver's license and good-standing driving record
• Some travel will be required
• Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
• Ability to continuously stand and walk throughout the day
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
• Ability to work outside in frequent changes of temperatures
• Ability to occasionally bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, and pull
• Ability to work in environments containing dust and fumes
• Ability to frequently drive to and from work sites, must have valid driver's license with good-standing driving record
