Job summary

S&ME is seeking a Construction Materials Project Manager to support our Augusta, GA and Columbia, SC offices. You will manage CMT and Special Inspection projects, coordinate with field and engineering teams, and ensure field work meets IBC standards.

This hands-on, fast-paced role offers mentoring opportunities, client interaction, and responsibility for project documentation, reporting, and quality assurance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or related Engineering field.
• At least 4 years of CMT/SI experience with 2+ years in a PM role.
• PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months; ICC, ACI, and DOT certifications preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT standards, and IBC Special Inspections requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Own CMT and SI projects from start to finish, including budgets, schedules, staffing, and QA.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, field teams, and engineers to keep projects moving.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to technicians and engineers on-site.
• Prepare proposals, scopes, and estimates and ensure deliverables are accurate and on schedule.
• Support client growth and industry engagement through networking and professional organizations.

Your Role: Hands-On, Impactful, and Fast-Paced

As a Construction Materials Project Manager you will support both Augusta, GA and Columbia, SC offices. You'll be the person who keeps projects moving and makes sure the work in the field meets the standards it should. You'll manage projects, work alongside field and engineering teams, troubleshoot issues as they come up, and stay involved with clients and contractors throughout the process.

This is a role for someone who wants more than a desk and a list of tasks. You'll have a voice in how projects are run, opportunities to mentor others, and the chance to use your technical experience while taking on greater responsibility for clients, projects, and the business.

• Project Management: Take ownership of CMT and Special Inspection projects throughout the project lifecycle, managing budgets, schedules, staffing, and technical requirements while ensuring work meets project plans, specifications, and applicable IBC standards.
• Client & Contractor Coordination: Serve as a key point of contact for clients and contractors, attending project meetings and site visits to understand needs, address concerns, communicate progress, and keep projects moving forward.
• Technical Leadership & Team Development: Provide technical direction in the field, review inspection and testing documentation, and coach technicians and engineers to promote accurate work, thorough reporting, and consistent quality.
• Proposals, Reporting & Quality Assurance: Prepare and review project reports, proposals, scopes, and estimates, ensuring deliverables are accurate, complete, aligned with client expectations, and delivered on schedule.
• Client Growth & Industry Engagement: Strengthen existing client relationships while identifying new opportunities through networking, industry involvement, and participation in organizations such as ASCE, AGC, and ACEC. Support marketing initiatives that increase visibility and expand the local business.

What We're Looking For:

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or a related Engineering discipline
• A minimum of 4 years of Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and Special Inspection (SI) experience, including at least 2 years in a project management role
• A Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Active ICC, ACI, and DOT certifications preferred
• A Strong working knowledge of applicable ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT standards, and IBC Special Inspections requirements
• An excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
• The ability to develop, review, and deliver accurate technical reports and project documentation

What to Expect:

With the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Outdoor, hands-on work in all weather conditions
• Walking over rough terrain and standing for long periods (up to 12 hours)
• Lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
• Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
