Job summary

DLB Associates is a premier engineering and consulting firm seeking a Construction Manager I to support owner’s representatives and contractors on mission-critical projects across the U.S. from design through turnover. You will coordinate architects, engineers, contractors, and operations teams, while ensuring schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives are met.

Expect 75–100% travel, with preference for candidates located near a major U.S. airport.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support the administration of contracts and assist with project and coordination meetings.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and project partners to track and help resolve issues.
  • Assist in managing project progression from design through as-built by reviewing, monitoring, and documenting deliverables.
  • Support adherence to budget, schedule, and contract requirements while maintaining alignment with owner standards and program objectives.
  • Track project budget and schedule status, identify potential impacts, and assist in developing recommended solutions.
  • Participate in contract administration activities, including bid/evaluation support and preconstruction planning.
  • Support construction administration by tracking submittals, RFI responses, and field documentation.
  • Maintain and issue risk log; assist in verifying that work aligns with design intent and quality expectations.
  • Assist in the completion and tracking of closeout documents and requirements.

Position Title: Construction Manager I
Position Location: Location varies by assignment. 75–100% travel across the U.S. unless assigned to an extended project. Must be located near a major US airport.
Job Summary

The Construction Manager I (CMI) supports the contractor and/or owner’s representative throughout all phases of a construction project, helping to ensure that the project’s scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and compliance objectives are met. This role assists with Owner’s Representative and Construction Management responsibilities, coordinating architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and operations stakeholders. The CMI contributes to the construction process from pre-construction through turnover and closeout, supporting structured reporting, risk management, and decision-making. The CMI will receive general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects, tasks or assignments. May work independently, consistently exercising discretion and independent judgment on individual work, or may work under immediate supervision. May serve as lead on routine projects, tasks or assignments of limited scope. The CMI will communicate and operate in line with organizational and client goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Support coordination efforts to promote constructability, maintainability, and compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain regular progress reports, identifying key updates, challenges, and priorities.
  • Support the creation of owner-facing materials, visuals, and key metrics using established reporting tools and templates.
  • Contribute to effective communication with internal teams, contractors, and clients through clear and timely updates.
  • Support client engagement efforts and represent the company professionally in all interactions.
  • Assist in preparing materials for proposals, presentations, and interviews.
  • Support program-level initiatives and help identify opportunities for process improvement and client support.
  • Leverage AI-enabled and digital tools to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support consistent, high-quality work output.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, seeking out new technologies, skills, and methods that elevate individual and team performance.
  • Adapt to emerging technologies and evolving digital workflows, actively supporting the integration and adoption of innovative tools across the organization.

Position Requirements (intermediate Level For All The Following)
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes for electrical, mechanical, and controls systems in mission-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, project management and construction procedures and best practices.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction of mission critical, commercial buildings or other structures.
  • Knowledge of the importance of the Method of Procedure (MOP) process and work notifications.
  • Skilled in clear, concise communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Skilled at using construction management software such as Procore.
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management.
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with onsite and remote team members.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

  • Frequently manipulating small parts/tools
  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position
  • Frequently moving through data center and outdoor environments (heat, cold, precipitation), including navigating tight spaces, accessing areas via stairs or ladders, and occasionally working in overhead or underequipment positions.
  • On occasion the employee may move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Travel Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to rent vehicles.
  • 75–100% travel across the U.S. unless assigned to an extended project (>6 months; typical assignments 9 months–4 years).
  • Ability to relocate within 1–3 months if required (when 100% travel isn’t supported).
  • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc. Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business needs.

CERTIFICATIONS & SAFETY

Ability to achieve NFPA 70E and/or OSHA training as required; strict adherence to HSE/LOTO policies.

Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related discipline
OR
Two years of hands‑on install/testing/validation/troubleshooting of mechanical, controls, and/or electrical infrastructure
