Job summary

Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS) is seeking a Construction Manager to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Program (WIPP) contract in Carlsbad, NM. The successful candidate will be employed by AIS, but will take day-to-day direction from WIPP staff, with AIS providing pay, benefits, and HR management.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Project Management or Construction Management, 10+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams, and the ability to obtain DOE security

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from concept through planning, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up, testing, and close-out.
  • Assist project controls, procurement, and business in technical reviews of work scopes and pricing strategies.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders through presentations and updates.
  • Oversee budgets and schedules; monitor progress and ensure objectives are met.
  • Ensure compliance with site and CFR requirements and contractual terms; maintain safety and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Project Controls on milestone payments and procurement invoices; support close-out activities.

Job description

Akima Infrastructure Services currently seeking Construction Manager to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Program (WIPP) contract in Carlsbad, NM.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance WIPP’s core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the successful candidate will take day-to-day direction and assignments from WIPP staff. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering projects from the conceptual stages through planning, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up, performance testing, initial operations, and prime contract close-out.
  • Responsible for assisting project controls, procurement, and business in technical reviews of work scopes, reviews and approvals or technical and pricing strategies.
  • Responsible for communications and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervises budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates action to assure program / project objectives and schedules are met.
  • In addition, oversight of executed project work within budget and according to site and engineering specifications.
  • Overall, responsible for the project execution ensuring that the project is delivered within contractual requirements, standards of quality and safety to the M&O and customer standards.
  • Engineering, Quality Assurance, Safety, Security, Operations, Mining, Hoisting, etc..
  • Ensure scope, design basis, and objectives are defined clearly along with any detailed work plans.
  • Obtains concurrence within multiple organizations through the AR/VR process and flows those down to the subcontractor or vendor.
  • Monitors and controls all contractual commitments to ensure that all work is being performed in accordance with specifications, drawings, and terms of the contract.
  • Oversees ES&H flow down requirements in the field to the subcontractor to ensure all site and CFR requirements are met.
  • Promotes continuous improvement between all aspects of the project including project team members and stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and works with Project Controls on milestone payments and review/approvals of procurement invoices from the subcontractor or vendor.
  • Works collectively and supports Procurement/Project Controls in the close out of project cost accounts and the prime contract even after full turnover to operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management or Construction Management (or similar) plus ten (10) years of experience managing projects and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to obtain DOE Security Clearance.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.
