Job summary

Ames Construction internship program offers hands-on experience in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, and Estimating. Interns are assigned to a project site or the Estimating Department with sites in Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and Los Angeles counties. The hourly rate for this position is $20-$22.

Interns gain practical exposure, mentorship, and an opportunity to contribute to safety, planning, submittals, procurement, and field coordination on busy construction projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.
• Strong organizational, written, verbal and time management skills.
• Have a positive attitude and excellent self-motivational skills.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Instill Safety as a top priority.
• Manage and support a team of construction coworkers.
• Build relationships and communicate with coworkers, owners, design partners, and subcontractors.
• Review and draft technical submittals such as schedule, shop drawings, work plans, etc.
• Monitor quality control, safety and environmental programs.
• Understand and assist with project layout.
• Identify critical work items and procure long-lead items.
• Assist with contract administration, including budget and change procedures.
• Assist with material procurement, including logistics.
• Work together to resolve field problems and conflicts with subcontractors, suppliers, and workforce.
• Maintaining as-built drawings & manuals.
