Job summary

Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Port Washington, Wisconsin, seeks an internship for undergraduate students to gain hands-on construction experience. You will assist project teams from bidding through final completion and may work at both office and job site locations.

Assignments include cost-estimating support, document review, submittals, RFIs, scheduling, and coordination with owners, architects, and subcontractors. Housing may be available in certain situations.

What It Takes

Open to undergraduate students interested in gaining hands‑on practical experience in the construction field. Qualified applicants will assist project teams in managing construction projects/ including all phases from bidding to final completion.

• Assignments include office and job site; relocation to a remote site may be required.
• Transportation is required.
• Work periods are 10-12 weeks; 40 hours/week.
• Housing may be provided in certain situations.

Intern Job Description

Reporting Relationship: Depending on the work assignment, interns will report to a project manager, superintendent, project engineer or field engineer. You may be assigned to the office, jobsite or mix of both.

Tasks Assigned: You will be learning the engineering and technical aspects of the project both in the field and in the office. Your experience will include some or all the following:

• Quantity take-off
• Layout
• Shop drawing review/approval & maintenance of log
• Submittal review/approval & maintenance of log
• Request for information (RFI) review/submission & maintenance of log
• Responding to subcontractor RFIs
• Interfacing with subcontractors & suppliers

Education

Candidates should be in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline, engineering technology or construction management, construction technology.
