Job summary

Alston Construction, a nationwide general contractor, is seeking a Construction Intern to support estimating, preconstruction, project management, and field operations. You will assist with bidding, ITBs, quantity take-offs, and coordination with superintendents and project managers in a hands-on environment.

Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field, and possessing a valid driver's license, you will gain real-world experience across multiple project

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
• Valid State-issued driver's license and satisfactory driving record and vehicle insurance which meets Alston Construction liability coverage requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist Estimating/Preconstruction with ITBs, development of estimates, quantity take-offs and proposal development.
• Assist Superintendent with coordination of subcontractor meetings, punch list, and jobsite inspections.
• Assist Project Manager with RFIs, records retention, monthly project reviews/meetings, change orders, and drawings review.
• Comply with all safety policies and uphold the company's safety culture.

Education

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting in Estimating/Preconstruction, Project Management, and/or Field Operations in areas such as bidding, proposal development, scheduling, project management, and cost management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Construction Intern may be involved with performing some or all of the following duties and responsibilities:

• Assist Estimating/Preconstruction with the following:
  • Prepare Invitations to Bid (ITBs) and solicit competitive trade proposals.
  • Development of estimates.
  • Perform quantity take-offs.
  • Proposal development.
• Assist Superintendent with the following:
  • Coordination of subcontractor meetings.
  • Perform, verify, and maintain punch list.
  • Jobsite inspections.
• Assist Project Manager with the following:
  • Requests for Information (RFI’s).
  • Records retention.
  • Participate in applicable monthly project reviews, project meetings, corporate meetings and forums.
  • Preparation of change orders.
  • Review of drawings and plans.

Safety:

• Comply with all safety policies, report suspected safety concerns, make recommendations for enhancements to the safety program, and visibly support and uphold the company’s strong safety culture.

Education, Experience, and Licensing/Certifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
• Valid State-issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record and vehicle insurance which meets Alston Construction liability coverage requirements.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach.
• Occasionally required to crawl.
• Repetitive use of keyboard and mouse.
• Extensive reading from documents and computer. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Lift 50 lbs.

Work Environment

• The Construction Intern’s duties may consist of work both in the field as well as the office.
• Will be exposed to outside weather elements while in the field.
• May be exposed to loud noises, fumes, and/or airborne particles while in the field.
• While in the field, dress (including proper PPE), is conducive to a building construction environment.
