Construction Inspector – Welding/Structural Bolting
Base pay range: $100,000.00 per year – $120,000.00 per year.
Location: Birmingham, AL.
Salary: Based on experience; discussed with hiring manager during interview.
Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass a federal background review and drug screen.
Responsibilities
- Observe, inspect, and provide reports on construction projects at federal facilities for compliance with plans and specifications regarding workmanship, materials, installation, and construction methods.
- Perform construction welding inspections related to steel fabrication.
- Conduct coating inspections and testing of various coating systems and application methods.
- Inspect and test structural bolting methods and installation.
- Recommend necessary changes to government personnel regarding contract plans and specifications across all phases of construction.
- Monitor contractor quality systems and administer the three‑phase inspection process.
- Provide surveillance at construction sites and assist owners in problem resolution.
- Deliver and review change orders, modification requests, RFIs, and submittals.
- Monitor contractor schedule.
- Ensure QA and safety plans are adhered to by the contractor.
- Utilize Resident Management System (RMS).
Education & Experience
- High School graduate with 5 years of construction welding inspection experience and 2 years of coating and structural bolting inspection experience.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector per AWS QC1; minimum five (5) years of steel fabrication experience.
- Non‑destructive testing (NDT) personnel qualified to ASNT.
- Coating inspection qualifications: NACE Level I or higher, or SSPC Protective Coatings Inspector Level 1 or higher, with formal training and at least two (2) years of inspection/testing experience.
- Structural Bolting Inspection certification per AASHTO G4.2 guidelines, formal training, and at least two (2) years of inspection/testing experience.
- Experience with Three‑Phase QC/Inspection process.
- Preferred experience with EM 385‑1‑1 USACE Safety Manual and Resident Management System (RMS).
