Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Construction Inspector – Water/Wastewater for Fort Pierce, Florida. The role supports engineers on Water/Wastewater and Utility projects, performing field inspections to verify compliance with plans, codes, and project specifications.

You will document inspection activities, coordinate material testing, read plans and specs, and travel within Florida. The position emphasizes collaboration with clients and contractors, supporting project closeout

Qualifications

  • High school degree/equivalent or better.
  • 3+ years of related experience on field projects.
  • Strong understanding of municipal specifications, governmental agencies (FDOT) specifications, details, and practices
  • Must be able to read plans and specifications
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety practices
  • Willing to travel within the state of FL
  • Client requested certifications

Responsibilities

  • Inspect water/wastewater, stormwater, utilities and related facilities construction projects for compliance with approved plans and codes.
  • Inspect roadway infrastructure per plans and contract documents.
  • Provide field engineering, construction management and contract support on site and in office.
  • Document inspection activities with daily reports and organized field files.
  • Oversee and coordinate material testing to ensure materials meet project specs.
  • Record quantities for pay items and admin documentation.
  • Participate in close-out activities and punch lists.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors and project teams.

Construction Inspector – Water/Wastewater

Location: Fort Pierce, FL

Position Summary

JMT is looking for a Construction Engineering Inspector to assist engineers with the completion of Water/Wastewater and Utility construction projects in Fort Pierce, FL.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of water/wastewater, stormwater, utilities and related facilities construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans and codes - to include water and sewer utilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of roadway infrastructure including earthwork, asphalt, concrete, drainage, flatwork, etc. to verify compliance with approved plans and contract documents
  • Provide field engineering, construction management and contract support services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests and change orders) as needed on site and in office
  • Ensure that construction workmanship and materials adhere to established industry standards and meet project specifications
  • Accurately document all construction inspection activities by creating daily reports and maintaining organized, detailed, and up to date field files
  • Oversee and coordinate material testing activities to ensure materials used meet project specifications
  • Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation
  • Participate in close out activities, including preparation of punch lists and final inspection reports
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, and project teams including other disciplines, such as cost estimators, designers, and other engineers
  • Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues
  • Operate and have the ability to upload, download and manage files in a Project Management Information System, PMIS, i.e. Procore, eBuilder etc.
  • Provide input and participate in client, contractor and staff progress meetings.
  • Gather and maintain record documents
  • Makes field notes and computations
  • Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries

Required Skills
  • Strong Computer proficiency
  • Strong in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
  • Active driver's license
Preferred Skills
  • Ability to act in an Owner's Agent/Responsible in Charge role
Required Experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
