Job summary

Fishbeck is hiring a Construction Inspector to support the Ohio DOT with field observation and documentation on roadway and bridge projects in Cincinnati and statewide Ohio. You will ensure compliance with contract requirements and assist with RFI processes, reporting, and coordination with engineers, technicians, survey staff and contractors.

Qualifications

• Requires 2+ years of construction inspection experience.
• Familiarity with ODOT construction specifications and field experience.
• Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork and utility inspection/testing.
• Preferred certifications: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Highway Construction Inspection, ICC Special Inspections, CWI/NDT.
• Proficient with MS Office; knowledge of Bluebeam and PlanGrid is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform field observation and documentation of contractor activities for contract compliance.
• Prepare Daily Work Reports detailing status, postings, materials and site conditions.
• Submit calculations, sketches and forms per ODOT specs.
• Verify adherence to contract requirements and raise non‑compliance issues to senior staff.
• Assist with RFIs and act as liaison between contractors and senior technicians/engineers.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, survey staff and stakeholders.
• Work with senior staff to ensure proper execution of project designs.

Fishbeck is seeking a dedicated Construction Inspector to join our Civil Field team in Ohio. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail‑oriented professional to perform field observation and documentation on roadway and bridge projects for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), as well as municipal utility projects.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in an outdoor environment, communicates effectively, and is passionate about ensuring construction quality and compliance.

What You'll Do

• Perform field observation and documentation of contractor activities for compliance with contract requirements.
• Prepare thorough Daily Work Reports (DWRs) detailing work status, item postings, materials associations, and jobsite conditions.
• Complete and submit required calculations, sketches, and forms per ODOT specifications.
• Verify construction adherence to contract requirements and communicate non‑compliance issues to senior staff.
• Assist with Requests for Information and serve as liaison between contractors and senior technicians/engineers.
• Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, technicians, survey staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to ensure proper execution of project designs.

What We're Looking For

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Completion of ODOT Certified Technician program or a bachelor’s degree in construction management or civil engineering.
• 2+ years of related experience in construction inspection.
• Familiarity with ODOT construction specifications and field experience.
• Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction inspection/testing.
• Preferred certifications: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Highway Construction Inspection, ICC Special Inspections, CWI/NDT.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Bluebeam, PlanGrid, and digital inspection platforms (AASHTOWare, Appia) is a plus.
• Experience with survey equipment including GPS or Arrow Systems is a plus.
