Job summary

Atlas is a trusted environmental and infrastructure consultant seeking a senior Construction Inspector to operate independently in the field, represent Atlas with municipal clients and TxDOT, and mentor junior inspectors on complex roadway projects.

The role requires strong plan-reading, report accuracy, and the ability to manage safety and regulatory compliance across sites with frequent travel.

Qualifications

This is a senior-level position for a candidate who can work independently in the field, represent Atlas with municipal clients and TxDOT, and mentor less experienced inspectors. Core Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports, field logs, and photographic documentation for owner and internal project records.
• Communicate inspection findings, nonconformances, and schedule-impacting issues to contractors, project managers, and TxDOT/municipal representatives.
• Identify, document, and track violations or deficiencies through to resolution, and ensure work meets applicable safety standards and regulations.
• Maintain current knowledge of TxDOT specifications, special provisions, and applicable regulations, and keep required certifications up to date. Perform special inspections (e.g., structural steel or concrete) where certified and required by project scope.
• Serve as lead/chief inspector on multi-inspector crews, providing technical guidance and reviewing junior inspectors' documentation.
• Conduct inspections on TxDOT and municipal construction sites to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions, including SWPPP/traffic control, concrete paving, hot-mix asphalt (HMA), drainage, earthwork, and structural (foundation, substructure, superstructure) work.

You’ll thrive here if you have

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field preferred (Bachelor's a plus).
• 10+ years of progressive experience as a construction inspector on TxDOT roadway, bridge, or interchange projects; municipal utility inspection experience a plus.
• Strong working knowledge of TxDOT Standard Specifications, special provisions, and Tex-series test procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret civil/structural plans, cross-sections, and specifications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for daily reporting and stakeholder coordination.
• Prior experience as a lead or chief inspector overseeing a multi-inspector crew preferred; ability to work independently and represent Atlas directly with TxDOT and municipal clients.
• Current certifications required: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I, TxAPA SB102 (Hot-Mix Asphalt), Special Inspector certification (e.g., 311T), and OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety.
• Ability to travel 50-75% of the time.
• Ability to obtain missing certification within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to use and navigate SiteManager and Metafield is a plus.
