Job summary

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects in Missouri is seeking a field construction observer to oversee projects from start to finish, document daily progress and test materials.

You will read plans, identify deviations, attend meetings, measure distances, and maintain accurate records while communicating clearly with owners and contractors.

Willingness to travel, lift 50+ pounds, and MoDOT or municipal project experience are preferred; 2+ years in construction is desirable.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of construction-related experience preferred but not required.
• MoDOT Technician Certification is a plus or must be willing to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect construction projects from start to finish with daily progress documentation.
• Read and interpret plans and report any deviations from contract documents.
• Conduct laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
• Maintain clear written and oral communication and answer inquiries as required.
• Attend project meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction and for progress updates.
• Measure and document distances with accurate math for work completed.

Job description

Roles and Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion. To include, but not limited to, thorough documentation of daily progress, computing and tracking materials and quantities, material sampling and testing, maintaining timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
• Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents. Recognize and report any deviations from the contract documents.
• Conduct laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
• Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and be able to answer inquiries as required.
• Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
• Measure and scale distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.

Required Skills

• Must be able to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required providing on-site observation, inspection and testing.
• Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds
• Knowledge of typical construction practices, MoDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
• Ability to work independent and incorporate efficient time management practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
• Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
• Experience working with DOTs or municipalities and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Required Experience
