Job description

Are you looking to take your career to the next level? Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is currently seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for our St. Louis office. This person will be responsible for inspection of specific operations on construction job sites for transportation projects. Residing in the greater St. Louis area is not a requirement as inspectors generally report to the various project locations.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
• Document daily progress, compute and track materials and quantities, sample and test materials, maintain timely and accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
• Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Recognize and report any deviations from the contract documents.
• Conduct laboratory and field testing and report on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
• Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and answer inquiries as required.
• Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
• Measure and scale distances and use competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.

Required Skills

• Must be able to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
• Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds.
• Knowledge of typical construction practices, MoDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
• Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
• Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
• Experience working with DOTs or municipalities and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Required Experience

• 2+ years of construction related experience preferred but not required.
• MoDOT Technician Certification is a plus or must be willing to obtain certification.

Annual Salary Range: $33,000 - $83,000
