Construction Inspector

Overland Park, Kansas

Garver has an opening based out of our Overland Park, KS office for a Construction Inspector. The primary duties include inspection and observation of roadway and bridge construction projects.

This role involves observing, inspecting, and documenting construction activities under the supervision of the Project Engineer or Manager. The inspector will assist in ensuring that the project complies with plans and specifications.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Regular use of written and oral communication skills
• Reading and interpreting plans, data, and documents
• Analyzing and solving problems
• Observing and interpreting construction site situations
• Performing detailed work on multiple tasks under deadlines
• Conducting construction materials testing for contract compliance
• Interacting with staff, contractors, the public, and others
• Ensuring quality of contractor’s work and reviewing discrepancies
• Preparing daily reports on construction activities, weather, personnel, materials, and equipment
• Measuring, calculating, and reporting work quantities for pay estimates

Applicants must be capable of outdoor physical activity including lifting, bending, climbing, walking, standing, and operating motorized vehicles.

Requirements

• 2-5 years of experience in construction inspections, surveying, or materials testing
• Ability to travel
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Strong communication skills

Preferred Skills

• Surveying or materials testing experience
• Experience inspecting construction projects
• Knowledge of DOT specifications
• Electronic document management skills
• Certifications such as ACI Concrete Technician, Traffic Control/Safety training, or others
