Job summary

Cherokee Federal is seeking a Construction Inspector Journeyman to perform site inspections and enforce compliance with plans and specifications on complex projects. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years related construction experience are required.
  • Familiar with Civil Engineer AFIs, Unified Facilities Criteria, and building codes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of construction inspection practices.
  • Working knowledge of QA/QC principles.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state codes/guidelines.
  • Must be a US citizen with an active Secret Clearance.
  • Professional certification/registration is desirable.
  • Past roles may include Construction Supervisor/Foreman/PM.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure contractor compliance with approved plans and specs for various contracts.
  • Coordinate with contractor representatives on work scheduling and materials acceptance.
  • Investigate and report on claims or potential claims.
  • Correct deficiencies with contracting officer to ensure contract compliance.
  • Monitor progress schedules, cost breakdowns, and submittals for payments.
  • Prepare documents, reports, and daily logs addressing contract progress.
  • Produce construction dailies and weekly activity reports.
  • Oversee inspection practices for materials, workmanship, and installations.
  • Ensure safety practices in construction industry are followed.
  • Interface with internal teams, base civil engineering, stakeholders, and contractors.

Construction Inspector

***As required by our governmental client, this position requires an active Secret clearance to be considered.

A Construction Inspector Journeyman is a skilled professional responsible for inspecting and evaluating construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards. They have a deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety practices. Ensure construction contractor compliance with approved plans and specification for various construction contracts, which may be for the construction or renovation of large, complex administrative office buildings, hospitals, aircraft maintenance and industrial facilities, or utility distribution systems.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Construction Inspector Journeyman:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Construction Inspector Journeyman Responsibilities Include:
  • Ensures construction contractor compliance with approved plans and specification for various construction contracts, which may be for the construction or renovation of large, complex administrative office buildings, hospitals, aircraft maintenance and industrial facilities, or utility distribution systems.
  • Coordinates with construction contractor representatives concerning work scheduling, interpretation of plans and specifications, selection of work methods, and acceptability of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Investigates and reports on controversial situations which have either led to formal claims or are expected to lead to such claims by the construction contractor.
  • Coordinates with the contracting officer to correct construction contract deficiencies, unacceptable material, or work performed to ensure compliance with the contract requirements.
  • Monitors and evaluates construction contract progress schedules noting work progress, delays, or other problems that could interfere with construction, review construction contractor’s cost breakdowns, progress measurement data, reports of material and equipment used, and field inspection and survey reports in order to compute periodic payments and recommend approval/disapproval of contractor submittals and progress schedules.
  • Prepares various documents, reports, and correspondence and maintain daily logs and safety reports addressing the progress of construction and the administration of the contract.
  • Provides Construction Dailies and Weekly Activity Reports.
  • Oversees construction to ensure inspection practices and procedures involved in the inspection of building materials, workmanship, utilities, and the installation of systems are followed.
  • Oversees construction to ensure safety practices in the construction industry are followed.
  • Interfaces with other technical staff within an internal team, base civil engineering staff, installation stakeholders, government contracting staff, and construction contractors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Construction Inspector Journeyman Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or construction related field and 3 years of related construction experience is required.
  • Familiar with and ability to adhere to all instructions outlined in the 32 series Civil Engineer AFIs, Unified Facilities Criteria, and applicable building codes.
  • Skilled in utilizing and applying computer software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of construction inspection practices is required.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles is required.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state codes/guidelines is required.
  • Must be a United States citizen with an active Secret Clearance.
  • Professional-level certification and/or registration is highly desirable.
  • Past applicable job experience may include, but is not limited to:
    • Construction Supervisor
    • Construction Foreman
    • Construction Project Manager
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
