WSP is currently initiating a search for a part-time Construction Inspector for our Cincinnati, OH office. The following locations will also be considered: Lexington, KY. Your Impact
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for field inspection activities.
- Use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections on projects of basic to moderate complexity and/or scope, including proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, construction, materials, controls, resources, layout, alignment, and elevation to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits.
- Follow standard practices to provide technical assistance that accounts for the proper inspection, construction, and functioning of buildings, highways, roads, bridges, structures, infrastructure, equipment, and/or mechanical systems according to design standard specifications.
- Verify load calculations, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, recognizing moderate to slightly intricate construction, engineering, or survey problems and escalating any differences, errors, or technical problems for appropriate resolution.
- Monitor project phasing plans and contractors' work to ensure quality control and contract compliance; document work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project.
- Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and other attendees.
- Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed.
- Ensure adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects, ensuring that material tests are performed, and materials meet required standards.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to inspection findings using electronic systems, written/oral feedback, photographs, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
- Comply with client policies and procedures for inspection work under contract.
- Follow safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, studies, surveys, and construction.
- Collaborate with other professionals, scientists, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on assigned inspection phases, checks, and tasks.
- Engage in occasional contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspections.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant post-education experience in the discipline with prior construction inspection experience.
- Kentucky Certifications for Grade & Drain Inspector.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Excellent construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with others and expressing ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-leadership skills with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team to meet objectives.
- Analytical mindset for evaluating situations and making sound judgments.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge effectively.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and accurately.
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and conduct policies.
- Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Must pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in a related discipline is preferred.
- Essential professional licensure/certification.
