WSP is actively seeking a Construction Inspector for our Cincinnati, OH office with consideration for Lexington, KY. In this role you will collect data from the site, analyze findings, and support PM/CM teams on projects of varying complexity.

Applicants need at least 7 years of field inspection experience, Kentucky Grade & Drain Inspector certifications, and a valid driver’s license. The role emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, precise documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Kentucky Certifications for Grade & Drain Inspector

  • Excellent construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from the work site and other sources for field inspection activities.
  • Use survey instruments and test equipment to perform inspections on projects of basic to moderate complexity.
  • Provide technical assistance to ensure proper inspection and functioning of buildings, highways, bridges, and structures.
  • Verify load calculations and interpretation of contract plans and specifications; escalate issues as needed.
  • Monitor project phasing and contractors’ work to ensure quality control and contract compliance; document progress.
  • Work with cross-functional teams on assigned inspection phases and tasks.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and attendees.
  • Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed.
  • Ensure equipment and materials meet required standards and are available on projects.
  • Generate documentation and specifications related to inspection findings using various media.
  • Comply with client policies for inspection work under contract and safety guidelines.

WSP is currently initiating a search for aConstruction Inspectorfor ourCincinnati, OH office.The following locations will also be considered: Lexington, KY. Your Impact
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for field inspection activities.
  • Use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections on projects of basic to moderate complexity and/or scope, including proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, construction, materials, controls, resources, layout, alignment, and elevation to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits.
  • Follow standard practices to provide technical assistance that accounts for the proper inspection, construction, and functioning of buildings, highways, roads, bridges, structures, infrastructure, equipment, and/or mechanical systems according to design standard specifications.
  • Verify load calculations, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, recognizing moderate to slightly intricate construction, engineering, or survey problems and escalating any differences, errors, or technical problems for appropriate resolution.
  • Monitorprojectphasing plans and contractors' work to ensure quality control and contract compliance; documenting work progress and issues arising throughout scope ofproject.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executingprojectwork.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and other attendees.
  • Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed.
  • Ensure adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects, ensuring that material tests are performed, and materials meet required standards.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to inspection findings using electronic systems, written/oral feedback, photographs, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
  • Comply with client policies and procedures for inspection work under contract.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, scientists, engineers, inspectors,projectcontrol, and technicians on assigned inspection phases, checks, and tasks.
  • Engage in occasional contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinateprojectinspection.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Capable critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Ability to provide input and feedback to others in the field such as subcontractors and work colleagues to consistently complete tasks safely, efficiently, and accurately according to specifications.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive toproject-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending onproject-specific requirements.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
