Sacramento County is seeking a seasoned inspection supervisor to lead construction inspections for county buildings and public works projects. The role requires directing staff, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and standards, and coordinating with owners, architects, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors.
Candidates should have substantial experience in building inspection or heavy engineering construction, with a relevant degree. A California driver’s license is required.

Under direction, supervise, direct and occasionally perform the construction inspection of new County buildings and building repairs and alterations; or public works projects, including roads, bridges, drainage structures, site improvements, waste water treatment plants, water distribution systems and street lighting facilities, parks, public buildings; or residential and commercial development to ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, ordinances, standards, plans, and specifications; and to do related work as required.
Note: If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

Licenses: A valid California Driver’s License, Class C or higher is required prior to appointment. Failure to maintain the appropriate California Driver’s License may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Certification: Some positions in this class require incumbents to complete one year of verifiable experience in the appropriate field and, within one year thereafter, to obtain certification from a recognized state, national or international association, as determined by the County. Any person currently and continuously employed by the County as an inspector, plans examiner or building official, for not less than two years prior to January 1, 1996, is exempt from the certification requirements as outlined above.
Physical Requirements:
Working Conditions: Incumbents work in an office setting or field project trailer with limited amenities. Incumbents also are required to work out-of-doors and in all kinds of weather. At construction sites, incumbents will be exposed to dust and fumes. Incumbents may be required to work nights and on weekends.
Timelines: The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months.
