Job summary

USI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a construction inspector to monitor federally and locally funded transportation projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents and approved shop drawings.

The role supports project managers and owners with field observations and documentation. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of inspection experience, knowledge of INDOT standards, and proficiency in reading construction docs, with strong math and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience inspecting federally and locally funded transportation projects.
• Knowledge of INDOT standards and procedures.
• Ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and strong math skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Observe and monitor construction for compliance with contract documents and approved shop drawings/material submittals.
• Record field observations and determine acceptability of construction work.
• Coordinate with owner and assist Project Manager on construction issues.
• Prepare and maintain project records per company/client/government standards.
• Coordinate QA testing, inspections, and surveys.
• Review contractor’s payment applications and change orders.
• Other related duties, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Familiar with company, client, government and industry standards.
• Follows verbal and written instructions
• Observes and monitors construction for compliance with contract documents and approved shop drawings/material submittals.
• Records field observations and determines acceptability of construction work performed.
• Monitors contractor's quality control and verifies construction conforms to contractor's quality control plan.
• Makes field measurements, computations and records of acceptable work.
• Prepares reports outlining the work performed and the quality of completed and acceptable for payment.
• Calculates the quantity of acceptable completed work for payment.
• Reviews and verifies contractor's payment applications, proposals, and change order requests.
• Coordinates construction activities with owner and assists Project Manager with client on construction related issues.
• Prepares and maintains project records in accordance with the company's, client's, and government's standards.
• Coordinates or conducts quality assurance testing, inspections and surveys.
• Other related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

• High School Diploma required
• INDOT certified technician, or Construction/Civil Engineering degree required.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of 2 years continuous experience in the inspection of federally and locally funded transportation projects.
• Knowledge of INDOT standard and procedures.
• Ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
• Understands and follows company standards, demonstrates knowledge of construction techniques, and assists mid to senior level team members with complex projects.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong mathematics skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Valid Driver's License with acceptable record
