Job summary

Western Partitions, Inc. (WPI) is seeking a Construction Estimator to perform takeoffs, set estimated costs, and prepare bids and budgets. You will collect proposals, blueprints, and specs, coordinating with trade departments to produce accurate cost estimates and proposals.

The role requires strong math, cost analysis, and software skills with a focus on accuracy, teamwork, and communication. Local Phoenix office access is a must; this is not a remote position.

• Must be local to office in Phoenix, Arizona.

Responsibilities

• Understand and comply with all WPI policies, procedures, and safety program.
• Participate in safety plans and measures on assigned projects.
• Review contract language, scope of work, and provisions; inform project team.
• Prepare complete estimates with cross-department input.
• Review drawings, specs, bid forms for detailed proposals.
• Calculate material quantities from drawings/specs.
• Communicate with client during bidding and changes.
• Support project management in early budget stages.
• Assess budget and profitability objectives.
• Seek corrective actions to improve cost figures.
• Analyze project areas to collect relevant data.
• Visit jobsites, participate in meetings as required.

Job Description

The Construction Estimator is accountable for plan takeoffs, setting estimated costs, and preparing project bids and budgets. This position is also required to estimate a project by collecting proposals, blueprints, specifications, and associated records. The Estimator will coordinate with our specific trade departments to produce cost estimates and proposals.

• Understand and comply with all WPI policies, procedures, and corporate safety program.
• Actively participate in the safety plans and measures of the assigned projects.
• Review contract language, scope of work, and special provisions in the contract. Make sure project team members are aware of these items.
• Working with our other departments, put together complete estimates.
• Review drawings, specifications, bid forms, and other paperwork to prepare detailed proposals.
• Use mathematical algorithms to calculate the amount of material required.
• Communicates with the client during the bidding phase and on any modifications of a project.
• Functions as support for project management throughout the beginning stage to explain any problems in the budget.
• Assess budget and plan profitability status and objectives.
• Ask feedback on corrective actions to enhance the continuous identification and reliability of cost figures.
• Thoroughly analyze different areas of a project to collect relevant data.
• Support and visit assigned job sites, participate in, and conduct job meetings as required.

Requirements

Basic Requirements

• Background in business, math, accounting or general cost estimation preferred.
• Must be local to office in Phoenix, Arizona.
• Must be able to commute to our office in Phoenix. This is not a remote position.
• Ability to analyze and process key information, recognize critical areas on the job that could impact profitability, and then actively navigate the project away from risks and liabilities for a successful outcome.
• Understand field productivity, as well as material and equipment costs.
• A clear understanding of how to read and understand specifications and drawings.
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
• Proficient in OnScreen Take-off, QuickBid, or equivalent software.
• Strong oral and written communication skills is required.
• Strong math skills are required.
• Ability to work in team environment is required.
• Strong customer service skills are required.
• Ability to multitask, think critically, and problem-solve is required.
• Ability to learn new job skills by engaging in the technical aspects of the job and applying new skills as they are taught is required.
• Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on all assignments.
• Must possess strong organizational and computer use skills and have a high level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction related documentation and communicate with coworkers.
