Work Location & Travel Expectations

The role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel, typically up to approximately 90%. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months and may involve mobilization support such as mileage reimbursement or other travel assistance. Eligible employees receive per diem for temporary living and travel-related expenses in addition to a competitive base salary.

Position Overview

The Construction Engineer is responsible for supporting the successful planning, execution, and closeout of heavy industrial construction projects. This role provides technical and project controls support by managing submittals, RFIs, schedules, change management, cost forecasting, progress reporting, and project documentation while working closely with project management, field supervision, clients, and vendors to ensure project objectives are achieved safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and quality requirements to ensure successful project execution
  • Develop and implement project engineering processes including submittals, RFIs, document control, risk management, change management, scheduling, and project reporting
  • Support Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) planning and coordinate work package development with field and construction teams
  • Provide technical support to construction personnel, including constructability reviews, specification interpretation, and engineering issue resolution
  • Manage project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, meeting minutes, schedules, progress reports, and closeout records
  • Coordinate and maintain project schedules, progress measurement systems, cost forecasts, cash flow projections, billings, and budget tracking
  • Lead schedule review meetings and collaborate with project stakeholders to identify and resolve project risks, delays, and scope changes
  • Administer the project change management process, including change order identification, documentation, tracking, and execution
  • Track vendor back charges, material procurement status, punch‑list items, warranty issues, and project closeout activities
  • Ensure project documentation, reporting, and deliverables are completed accurately, stored appropriately, and submitted on time
  • Promote a strong safety and quality culture by complying with company policies, site‑specific safety requirements, and project quality standards
  • Participate actively in project and team meetings while supporting client satisfaction through safe, high‑quality, and timely project delivery
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)
  • 1–10 years of experience in industrial construction
  • Foundational knowledge of heavy industrial construction practices, project controls, and construction management principles
  • Understanding of applicable building codes, trade‑specific codes, and construction specifications
  • Experience with project scheduling, cost control, forecasting, document management, RFIs, submittals, and change management processes
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective interaction with clients, vendors, and project teams
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Detail‑oriented with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work collaboratively with field supervision, project management, and construction teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software systems
  • Ability to accurately track project performance metrics, budgets, schedules, and contractual deliverables

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Perform physical movements such as bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing
  • Safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven, confined, or cluttered work areas
  • Work at elevated heights and comply with fall protection and safety requirements
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Work in environments with exposure to noise, dust, temperature extremes, and other construction‑related conditions
  • Interpret technical drawings and visualize three‑dimensional concepts when needed
  • Maintain sufficient vision, hearing, coordination, and awareness to safely perform job duties
  • Ability to work extended shifts, including up to 12 hours, in outdoor construction environments and varying weather conditions
  • Maintain physical stamina and strength to perform demanding job duties throughout the workday
